Calling All AD Sub/Panels: Whats the scoop on Clam vs Barn doors?

Ive been looking for another project... not that I need one. I really like the AD Burbs and have seen them with Clam doors and barn doors.
What is the value/rarity of each?
when did they make each?

I'd love to see some photos of each?

also... usually the Chevy will usually fetch more than a GMC, but with an old burb how much more/less is a GMC worth?

Thanks!

I'd go with barn doors, easier to set stuff in and out of.

Both of mine are barn doors. I have seen clam shell doors too but I like the looks of the barn doors myself.
People prefer the looks of the Chevy grill but there are less GMC's out there. When new Chevy was preferred too and that's why Chevy's out number GMC's roughly 3 to 1 (or so I've heard).

So you want something different, how about these.

Sorry I don't have any Sub's with barn doors.

At least you can see what a pain clam shell doors are. If you have a trailer you'd have to disconnect it to get to the clam shell door.

Re: Calling All AD Sub/Panels: Whats the scoop on Clam vs Barn doors?

they made them diffently in 1948 to 1954.but i am not sure if they made a AD style suburban in late 1947 or 1955. as far how many they made of each chevrolet did specify.on Ad suburbans or carryalls the the clam shell style is more rare then the barn door style.if you can find a gmc clam shell, thats about the rariest in suburbans and carryalls or in chevrolet the 54 clam shell style. as far as getting parts like the handle, rubber replacement glass seals and glass you can get them from jim carter classic industries or chevs of the 40s for the barn door style. but they dont make the handle for the clam shell.they dont make the hinges for both styles.the rubber weather strip is the same for both.exept the clam shell style you need to buy it in length.as far as the window glass for the clam shell a good glass guy can cut a piece of flat glass and install it using a gm style seal. so if you do get a clam shell style make sure you get one with all the parts including the upper hinge stop to keep the upper clam shell open because they dont make that either.

thanks. I have looked at a few and one really interests me. However, all of the hardware for the clam shell doors are there except it looks like its missing the lower door handle...

which apparently is not picnic locating...

I already have 3 projects right now... but I will have to weigh out this one because its less rust than others i have looked at... it also is missing all the original seats except the jump seat on the pass side...
