With school and work and working on my house, i am not going to have time to do some stuff to my truck that i want. I have made the decision to get a local mech to do it. What kind of price am i looking at for these 2 things.

i need to have a new valve cover gast put on. It has been leaking since i bought the truck and i am tired of tightening it up.

i would also like to have the tranny cover pulled and a new gasket put on it. While there in there they may as well replace the filter in there and anything else.

I also think that the u-joints need to be replaced.

how much do you think this will run me??

I would say they would charge you 1 hour for the VC gaskets, 1 hour for the tranny pan, and 2-3 hours of labor for the u joints, plus parts. VC gaskets are $12 for good Fel Pro's, a tranny filter and pan gaket kit is $8 or so, and good U-joints run about $10 a piece.

The labor is just rough estimates....i'm not just a shadtree mechanic myself

anytime chevykid. I have never heard of knightdale. Where is it near?

thanks yellow, how many u-joints will i need? i would think that the only ones that need replacing are the rear. The 4 wheel drive has never been used much.

Love your truck, i'm actually looking for one a lot like yours.

The valve cover gaskets are a pretty easy job. If you have 30 minutes or so, you can do it in your driveway.

The tranny filter and fluid and u joints are a little tougher. I agree with yellow, you are looking at 3-4 hours of labor and parts. Labor varies, but i am thinking that it should be between 30-50 dollars an hour. Parts around 40-60 dollars.

i have a long list of stuff to do with this truck but it has to be on the back burner behind school, house remodeling, etc. ( except for stuff that has to be done)

Don't 4wd trucks use a 1pc rear driveshaft?

If so, just 2 u-joints.

The valve cover gasket is a five minute job provided that the old old hasn't been "glued" on. A shop will probably charge you a flat-rate hour for labor (around 60-70 bucks) and the part (cost times two). I'd at least do the valve cover and tranny gaskets myself and have the u-joints done by the shop.

valve covers dont take that long. like maybe 20-30 minutes to take off, clean, put the new gaskets and tighten up.
