Headers for a 68' Bigblock?

i am wanting to redo my whole exhaust, i am NOT looking for quality/performance, i just want to get rid of the ugly manifolds that are on there.... plus i want to go to 2.5" dual pipe instead of 2.25" that it currently has... i just want to make sure i get the right fitment ones since the 454 did not come on a 68, i saw some longtubes on summit from $80-$160 will those work?

thanks...

Just make sure your frame brakets for the motor mounts are for the big block. I found out the hard way that there is clearance issues with the long tube headers.

Look up headers for a 68 with a 396, the external dimensions on all non-big truck BBC motors are the same.

What did you have to do to solve this issue? I am having the same issue with my '68. I just dropped in a 454 and the manifolds are hitting the frame rails before the motor mounts drop into place. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Headers for a 68' Bigblock?

When we put the '73 454 in my '71 we had to use the motor mounts that were on the '73 motor to get the clearance for the headers.

I bought the headers used, but they are Hookers and look like comps.

Re: Headers for a 68' Bigblock?

The 454 I have orginally came out of a '79 one ton and it has the newer style motor mounts on it. My '68 c30 had a small block 400 in it, so I just put the small block motor mounts on the big block. I have done some reading on here that some guys have bought the big block towers to replace the small block ones, but when I ran into this problem I assumed it was just the wrong manifolds for the style of truck. So I called Summit Racing and talked to a tech guy and he said that Hedman Headers makes a header for a a 1968 c30 with a big block engine swap.
