Re: what is this called?
The black is a painted portion of the outer grill for a 69 70 chev. But the A
Chrome between the light and black is the headlight bezel. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: what is this called?
The ring around the headlight retained by 4 screws is a bezel. Prior to 1971 they were steel and were painted satin black on the 69s and 70s (don't know color of 67s and 68s). In 71 and 72 the bezels were polished aluminum. The only popop bezels available for the 69s-72s are the polished alumininum. As shown in the pics above the indented area (3/8" or so wide) around the ends of the outer grille is also painted satin black.

1st grille diagram is 69-70, 2nd is 71-72 (69 and 70 also have different plastic center sections (but same out section and chevrolet band in middle - I can't really tell from the pic which is displayed... looks like 69)

Re: what is this called?
That yellow truck i the first post has a 71/72 grille surround with a billet grille insert in place of the OEM plastic grille insert. The black area you ask about is part of the surround which is all one piece, just accent painted for contrast.
