rate to replace fuel pump 2002 suburban
Does anyone have the flat rate time for a fuel pump r&r? The local dealership wants $1150.00 plus tax to replace it. I had a friend had the same thing done last year at a Texas dealership and it was $800.00 out the door. I guess I am a little shocked except maybe they are pricing in the fact I am from out of state.

Labor calls for 3 hours @ $100 per hour= $300. Add tax & some F.U. charges......$800 sounds about right. Sounds like they are trying to screw you for sure. |

Re: rate to replace fuel pump 2002 suburban
I had one done during the shell gas class action suit years ago.. around $770 out the door. But you can get a replacement pump and filter around $150 if you can dismantle the assembly without breaking it. I learned this working on motorcycles.
I always use www.rockauto.com for parts like that... and listen to clinebarger because he really...really.. knows his stuff

Re: rate to replace fuel pump 2002 suburban
Thank you all for your replies. I did what I should have at first. I called a couple of parts houses and got 2 recommendations for an independent former Chevy mechanic. He quoted $800 out the door.

be sure to use a good gm pump or dephi pump as the cheap aftermarket pumps dont normally last as long

Re: rate to replace fuel pump 2002 suburban
Order the parts yourself. I installed mine myself, but I'm used to doing this kind of stuff. Did it in my driveway and it took about 4 hours by myself. If I had to do it again I could probably do it in a couple hours now. Even if you can't do it, if you bring the part to that independent chevy guy you might be able to save some $.
go to gmpartsdirect.com You can even email them your VIN and they'll confirm it's the correct part. I think the one for my 2000 5.3L Z71 was about $250 or so. There are a couple different pumps, something to do with different emissions laws. EDIT: I put in clinebargers PN and I got $204.67. They're shipping is usually high, but still way cheaper than walking into a dealership for one. http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results.cfm

Re: rate to replace fuel pump 2002 suburban
I plan on using this complete setup from Racetronix when I replace my pump. I prefer to have a Walboro pump and to replace the sending unit (because my luck it will fail after I get the new pump in otherwise)
Here's the link, they go for $225 and I plan on getting the relay wiring kit as well. http://www.racetronix.biz/items.asp?...atus=0&Tp=&Bc=
