wiring fun lol

so recently i decided to get my gauges all working so i went out and bought a oil and temp sensors. now my temp sensor worked fine but since i had my headers installed i cant hook the sensor back up in the spot as the headers are in the way.

so i went and bought a new one and installed it in the t-stat housing and when i get to operating temp its pegged at 240

and the oil press gauge stays pegged all the way to the right all the time.

any help would be great!

Sounds like your sensor leads are grounded out somewheres. May have to trace the wires all the way back to the fire wall to make sure they're all good. same thing under the dash too.

Re: wiring fun lol

so was out tinkering with the wiring tracing things and everything keeps getting weirder (lol yes weirder!)

when i started this fun task the oil press and temp gauge were acting up (still are) the service soon light was on but would dim as you drove.

now i have cleaned the ground under the dash and traced the wires and nothing seems to be out of place so i put it all back together and the service light is out gauges still don't work and when you turn on the head lights the volt gauge drops quite a bit and when you turn the signals on the volt gauge moves with the signal click. where do i look now?

Re: wiring fun lol

Start checking ALL you ground wires , make sure all connections are clean and tight. look at the little wire right at the battery that goes to the fender, if it doesn't have one , make one.

Most Negative battery cables ground at the Alternator bracket, make sure bracket is tight to the engine, check for any small cable or straps at the back of the engine to the firewall. These are easily left off during an engine swap or valve cover removal.

Re: wiring fun lol

Disconnect the leads to the sending units, ground them out with the key on engine off and have some one watch the gauges. If they peg out all the way then the gauge is ok and the problem is with the sender. If not then the problem is with the gauge itself.
My battery gauge does the same thing even with a 145Amp alternator I've got. As long as it doesn't drop and stay down while running I don't worry about it.
