Question Installing window channel weatherstripping

Getting ready to order my weather stripping, which also may mean I'll be getting my interior painted sooner than I thought since I don't want to put the stripping on just to take it off soon to paint (and possibly ruin it in the process). The painter is a friend of ours so will work out a good deal to get it done.

Trying to plan ahead so I can be prepared for problems and have a better idea of how to do it.
I was noticing that the window channel stripping goes almost all the way down into the door. Is this a pita to replace? What worked best for those of you that have done it?

I'm going to be doing the doors and both door windows (vents too).

Any suggestions or words of wisdom to help me get through this?

Also a quick update on the status of everything else I've been talking about recently....

1.) Upholstered door panels and dash is installed

2.) Painted bezel (light grey) to match upholstery (dark grey and light grey) turned out better than I thought it would Might do brushed alum bezel eventually, but this works good for now.

3.) Bucket seats have a new frame welded to them and are sitting in my living room waiting for brackets to mount into truck. (To be done when center console arrives...unless I get impatient)

4.) Fold down center console seat is ordered and should arrive in approx 5 weeks

Ummm...I think that's about it for now. Sorry guys, no pics till the seats are in!!

Thanks, but I wasn't planning on getting LMC's. I'm going with Chevy Duty. I've heard good things about theirs.

I agree, JC Whitney has some good stuff. It worked great in my truck.

What was the question?

Personally, I wouldn't put the new stuff on if you will have to take it right back off when you do the painting.

As far as installed the window channel, it's not real bad. Remove the door panel so you can acces it from below. You can also use some soapy water to help it slide down the groove. I've never replaced the window vent stuff, so I wouldn't be much help there.

Thanks Mike

I'm supposed to meet with the painter to find out what he's going to need me to do to help prepare if anything and what he's gonna charge. If this is something we can do before winter then I'll wait on installing the stripping until it's painted. If I can't paint it before winter, I have to install the stripping...at least the door channels because they leak when it rains.

I've heard equal amounts of good between JC Whitney and Chevy Duty. I'm leaning more towards Chevy Duty because the product seems just as good but costs less. Why pay more for the exact same thing?

Its been almost 2 years or so since I did the window channel and all I remember is its a total PITA! I think you just need to be really patient.. I would push to get that thing painted asap because it will be so much easier to do it once.

As for the wing window seals, sorry no help here But I may be doing mine eventually so take good notes so I can ask for your help! I think a picture documentary is in order...

good luck

You should at least compare GM prices. I just bought what they call "belt line moulding" from the dealer. This is the trim that goes on the inside, and outside at the top of the door panel. The price was comparable with LMC, but I got GM quality instead...

Your local Chevy dealer may be the ticket. I know a lot of stuff you buy from LMC that is Genuine GM stuff, is a lot higher than I can get it for at the dealer. But, you have to know the parts guys before they will give you wholesale price. Of course, you being a little lady, you might can roll them big eyes and smile real big. Heck they may give them to you at cost.

Hi there, since you have painted your bezel grey, any chance you could post some pics of your interior. I am in the process of doing the same thing. How did it work? Did the paint stick OK? what type pain t did you use.
I bought an used bazel (which I painted black), but I believe grey would be a better color for me because my interior is blue and grey. I even thought maybe blue>
Please let me know.
how much preping did you have to do to that bezel prior to painting.

thanks
al

I used Krylon grey spray paint with a coat of Krylon primer to prep. Finished off with a light clear coat. I really don't know what I'm doing haha but it turned out ok. Once I have the interior painted and the buckets in I may decide to shoot it with some dark grey paint or get the brushed alum bezel.
I'm still trying to decide if I like the lightness of it...hard to tell though cuz the interior is still in process of changing. And since the interior is going to be light and dark grey, this may turn out to be ok.

Here it is with a shot of the dash to get an overall look:

and here's a straight shot at it:

EDIT: Anyone have any suggestions for alternatives for those nasty screws?

i put in new vent window rubbers in some vent windows that I haven't installed yet(also from jc whitney) and let me tell you it is a real PITA. i had the 2 piece style, but you have to take the window out. actually after i did the first one and figured it out the second one wasn't that bad. you have to drill or whatever the rivets in the hinge out. someone on the board here was nice enough to send me the 2 rivets and rivet tool they had gotten from lmc that they had layin around for free plus a one piece rubber seal for one side but i couldn't use it because i needed the two piece rubber.

If you are done with that ribbet tool, I wouldn't mind borrowing it. I will give it back when I am done. I need to do the same thing.

thanks
