Key sticks when starting...

Title says it all.

There is resistance when turning to key to crank the truck and the key sticks once it hits the start position and I have manually turn the key back (it doesn't spring back at all).

I just replaced the key cylinder. The only other thing I can think of is the actuator rack and/or rod...

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Key sticks when starting...

this happened to me the other day, except my key would not move at all. i jacked up the front of the truck enough to get the tires off the ground then lowered it then it worked.

if it aint that i dunno, maybe the ignition?

Well... my truck is and has been on a lift for about a month, lol! It has to be something withing the column itself. Guess this weekend will consist of a self taught column rebuild! We'll see what happens...

perhaps the ignition switch the actuator rod operates is causing it?

Re: Key sticks when starting...

the actuator is gone. Not 100% sure how to fix it but on my ford i was told i needed a new column to get the pieces. So i just turned it into a keyless ignition.

Re: Key sticks when starting...

I'm thinking it's the actuator as well... not sure if it's the rack or rod though. There is a kit available that has both.

A key-less ignition might be another way to go... appreciate the idea--it hadn't even occur to me
