dash removal ???
How hard is it to remove the dash in these (67-72) trucks ? Can someone give me the lowdown on it , like what has to be removed first, and what doesn't have to be removed. How many bolts hold it in and where are they located. I found a '71 at the salvage yard that i'll be robbing the front suspension/ disc brake setup off of for my 5 lug conversion. The guy told me to take whatever i want for $100. While i'm in there, i may grab the a/c dash if its not to much trouble.

I don't think its going to be all that simple. Might be some bolts but it's also welded in. There's some recent threads about ac dashes for sale. Maybe it was teeitup who had them or could tell you the specifics.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I know the firewall on the factory A/C trucks is different.

- it bolts up to the side of the UPPER kick panel/under the dash - I think its two bolts per side, but not 100% sure
- then there are about a gazillion spot welds all along the top/front where the dash meets the front windshield pinch weld -lots of folks unbolt the side fasteners and then cut all the way across in the area where the dash pad covers it ... lots easier this way Hope this helps ... |

Personally if your radio hole is not hacked I would take the AC dash out of the yard and use it for templates to cut the holes in your dash. It is WAY easier to do this then it is to cut and reweld the entire thing in. Also keep in mind that the heater box hole on the firewall has different shaped opening, try and get that piece to weld into your cab.

I would take the whole truck for $100, take it home and experiment with it.

Let me tell you that taking the dash out of one of these trucks is not fun!! There are three bolts on each side. The bottom two are easy to get to, while the third and upper bolt is a bear unless the dash is stripped.
Now comes the fun part. About 40 spot welds across the windshield lip. I drilled them all out and still had to beat the crap out of the old dash. I bought an AC dash off of teeitup for $30. He cuts them out so that the lip is still in good shape because he cuts out the windshield frame. I will just cut it close to the dash and grind the excess metal down to make it fit back in. I would pass on it and find one for sale that someone already took out.

There is a drill bit made to drill throuugh one side of the metal and welds and only leave a small drill hole in the other, ( in this case the dash) I bought one from a member here on the board, I don't remember who though, I cut out a A/c dash the hard way, and Would never do it again, The only reason I finished the job ( the next day to boot) is I'm stupidly stubborn, and had already paid the wrecking yard for it.
