Another "what the heck is this?"
This bracket is riveted to the frame on the passenger side on my 1991 6.2 diesel crew cab. It has an adjustable "hook" on the end of it. I'm at a loss as to what it could be...

Re: Another "what the heck is this?"
I'm saying exhaust bracket or part of it anyway.

Re: Another "what the heck is this?"
I dunno
I was thinking that at first, but... It seems pretty over-kill for exhaust. I believe it's 1/8" steel and a 7/16" or 1/2" bolt on the hook part. The hook hangs fairly low also, I think tightening the nut all the way would only bring the hook up to several inches below the bottom of the body. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Another "what the heck is this?"
I'm going with tailpipe hanger too... but usually there's a rubber insulator somewhere on it.

Re: Another "what the heck is this?"
It's part of the glide out spare tire carrier. It holds the latch that holds up that end. I can get a picture of more of it on my wrecked 86 this afternoon.

Re: Another "what the heck is this?"
That's awesome guys!!
Thanks to Hatzie for the diagram and ElGracho for the pics!! All I'm missing is the carrier, and I think I may have thrown it away when I first got the truck The bed was full of trash and an old home gym and I thought that piece went with the home gym! I feel like a total idiot now Does anyone have a pic of one holding a spare? And how it "glides" out? Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Another "what the heck is this?"
WOW, learn something new everyday.
I should say that I have not parted out very many 85-91 trucks and given the salt and dirt roads here, spares under the truck never get reinstalled once they come out ther first time here... |
