Addicted to Trucks

Hey Guys,

I saw this advertised here in Aus, and I thought it seems to have a fair bit of the work done on it already.

I was wondering how different is the cabin to the standard truck?

Will the standard diff be ok with a 350 chev engine/T400 ??

I want to give it the shop truck look for the dealership and want to try and get it on the road as cheap as possible.

Any info or help would be great!!

Re: Addicted to Trucks

Andsonsvd, not sure what you mean by standard cabin? Pick up and truck cabins are the same as is the best of my knowledge. Our cabs differ in years to the US cabs in saying that our '54 cab is a US '53. I have seen that ad listed off and on over the last four or so months. I think the last photo shows the actual current state of the cab.

Regards,

Trently.

Re: Addicted to Trucks

Trently,

Yeah thats what I meant obviously here in Aus we would say does the ute cab match the truck cab. I have also seen it advertised a few times, but there is 2k in parts alone like the fuel tank, radiator and wiring harness and new tyres. Im thinking that it would be a good project and I dont want anything flash just a good ol truck to paint the dealerships name on the side, even the oxide undercoat type colour. nice wooden tray? I know that it always starts cheap but besides the engine, trans and drive shaft the chassis is finished by the looks?

Re: Addicted to Trucks

G'day Shane,

I just went over the ad again to refresh my memory. Yes, for that money, I do believe it would be a good deal. Certainly a lot of time gone into it already and the claim of six grand on expenses also seems realistic. I'd be tempted… but don't let me sway you.

Re: Addicted to Trucks

Trently,

Yes it does seem good value, I might go past and have alook. I am just trying to guess how much it will cost to finish without any major body work. I reckon just buy a v8 commodore or statesman or something, and then strip it using motor, box, steering column and seats.

its hard to guess costs.

Still quite a lot of hours left in it. Cheap if you have the time. Hmmm, don't these 'cheap' projects always tend to blow out? My guess is it'll swallow 10k relatively quickly (includes initial purchase). But then, you never know. Good luck.

Re: Addicted to Trucks

Assuming GM tooled the same in AU as the US the basic cab for the big trucks is the same as 1/2-3/4 ton. But fenders and hood, and possibly grille are different. Look at Beeeps Envoy thread in the build section. Because of the wider track width of the Envoy donor chassis he used big truck front fenders (wider with large wheel openings). It will kink of give you an idea of the difference when putting them on a small truck chassis.

Re: Addicted to Trucks

Doing this to my truck also. New suspension, drop axle, rebuilt motor, used trans, misc body parts, new wheels and tires, no real body work. Thinking I can get it done for around 7-8 grand. Let ya know got most of the parts all ready.
