Gas tank blues
Ok, so I have an aftermarket fuel tank that I wish to place at the rear of my truck. I have already consulted this thread: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=390845
My concern right now is that it does not fit due to the truck box frame.    Do I have to cut my box frame to make it fit? If I cut the crossmember, do I reweld another support? If you know of someone who has experience with this, can you please pm me his name so I can ask what they did. Thanks, |

I wonder if it would be better to remove the cross member at the frame and slide it back enough for the tank to clear the top cross member at the box. hmmm

Yes, You will have to trim the cross sill on the box for the tank to clear

Wow really, ok. Probably not a good idea to remove the cross member at the frame anyways.
So though, If I'm going to need to chop the cross sill, judging from the nice pic you've provided-- I should be able to cut it completely out and weld a piece of pipe in there. I think a round pipe will be stronger than cutting the existing member. K well, thank you gentlemen, for your help. I will post pics of my work on this thread for future projects. Cheers, |
