EGR thows a code because...

Hope you didn't think I was gonna give an answer! That's the question.

90 Suburban, 5.7 auto, 4x4. Recently put on a new OEM EGR valve and all was fine. Passed inspection because of it. EGR seems to be functioning as it should.
I've read a bunch of the old posts, but could somebody give me a checklist of what might cause code 32 on what should be/seems to be a good EGR? Thanks!

Did you replace the EGR solenoid as well?

No, I didn't. I guess there ought to be a way to test to see if it's kicking on/off.

Found this :

"Typical causes for this code include:

1) Faulty EGR valve-to-ECM connection
2) Plugged EGR passages and/or sticking EGR valve
3) Defective EGR valve
4) Defective ECM"

Here: http://www.truckforums.com/forum/che...-issues-15822/

Also have you disconnected your battery to clear the previous code 32 after you replaced the egr valve?

Thank you. That's sorta' what I was looking for. A B C ...

Yes, I have disconnected the battery. I may not have gotten the EGR passage cleaned out as good as I should have. And, it could be one of the other things! I'll be working on it this week. Thanks again.

Re: EGR thows a code because...

Just ordered an EGR valve myself. I think its the wrong valve tho. Everywhere I look seems to be telling me I should have a port style valve. What is currently installed is a negative back pressure valve. Since you have an near identical truck, do you know what yours is, or could you possibly get me the part #?

Re: EGR thows a code because...

I bought a Delphi EGR at NAPA. Don't mean it's the right one, though! Tomorrow morning (I think), I'm gonna put a new solenoid on it. I don't know that the solenoid is bad but I'm throwin parts at it, trying to get rid of the check engine light. I'm learning as I go!

That's the exact same one I have here. Put it on, but was hesitating and provided a jerky ride at 40mph. So I started researching, and that valve is definitely a port style. Not positive, but I'm not sure that's the correct valve for us.

Don't know if you've seen this thread or if it'd be of help. If I DO get mine fixed, I probably won't know what I did to fix it!
