Take your grill off then that will allow for access to the latch so you can pop it.

What year is your truck?

Depends on the year. If it's an 81+ you need to open the hood to get the grille off, its screwed through the top of the core support.

Take a piece of wood that is thin enough to fit between the hood and rad support. Pry right under the center of the hood until you can see the hood latch bolts. You should be able to get to the bolts with an extension and maybe a swivel, if necessary. Unbolt the latch and open your hood. I've done it multiple times when my latch broke.

Re: Hood pull????????- help needed

Do it like the guy that was caught taking my parts.
1/4" steel rod,18"long.Make a 90*bend,1/2 "from the end,and another 90* bend,2&1/2",from the first.
slide the bent end between the spring that pushes the hood up,and the latch, until it is behind the latch.
While pulling some tension, push the rod toward the driver's side, and it will release the latch.
After the guy was arrested,I decided it would be a useful item,so I made one, too. It really works well.

Re: Hood pull????????- help needed

I just had to make a hook out of 1/16" round stock and reach around up in there blind till I hooked the pull. It is frustrating. I have had to do it twice.

Post a pic of the tool. And did the thief go to jail, or prison. I hope he did.

This is what we used to use in the assembly plant (only it was made out of flat stock rather than rod).

Re: Hood pull????????- help needed

grs,I will post pics tomorrow,of the tool, and how to use it.
Yes,the guy went to jail(gladly!)as I noted in my thread,"Dist Rotor Mystery". He is scheduled for trial in April, for theft,in excess of $100(felony),burglary,and criminal tresspass. It is NOT his first time,so it's gonna go hard for him.

Re: Hood pull????????- help needed

Here are pics of the tool, and how it is positioned.Note that it slides in UNDER the cable, then loops behind the latch.
Once it's in position, push the rod toward the driver's side(keep your hand close to the hood, and the other hand on the end),and it will release the latch.

It might take a couple of tries,(and come in from passengers side,at 45 * angle, between the latch, and the big spring),but you'll be able to do it quite easily, after that.

I will try to make one. I hope there is no one on this site that makes one, and starts to steal parts off our trucks.

LOL! I'm not worried about it,anymore! I'm making an alarm that trips the horn(I have air horns)when I flip a switch inside the cab.As soon as the latch is released, with the switch ON,the air horns go off!
If that fails to stop them, the .380 WILL !!
With the switch OFF,I can open the hood normally.

They're just some cheapies I bought at Harbor Freight, for $20. But they're louder than stock horns! I'll get a pic for you, tomorrow. They came with the relay, dual trumpets, compressor, wiring, and instructions.
