Do I have to change out the oil pan?
I have a 72 burb with a 04 Tahoe 5.3. The burb is bagged with 22's in the front, but may go to 20's.
Putting in the tranny this weekend, just didn't want to do it until the pan was changed if it needed to.

You shouldn't have to change out the pan unless you have some crazy setup planned. The stock truck pans fit in these older trucks, but it may hang a little low if you're planing on dragging frame. If that's the case, you could raise the motor and trans with creative mods to the motor mounts or find a different pan.

what setup? I think you're OK if you're using a PB dropmember...otherwise you might need to swap to a shorter pan.

The truck pan WILL hang down. I personally wouldnt want that to be the lowest point on a bagged vehicle...

Just a stock frame, it is a 73-87 crossmember. I won't be dragging the frame or anything crazy like that.

the stock truck pan will hang below the stock crossmember 1"-1 1/2"

Bryan. I'm actually going to change my pan because it hangs below the crossmember. You know how low my truck is static dropped, and I'm not comfortable with it. I'm buying an F-body pan from a guy locally. I know of a guy on LS1Tech.com that has a CTS-V pan if you wanted to go that route.

$150 but without the pickup tube. It does come with a gasket, though. I think the pickup tube from GM is only about $20.

Matt, can it be changed easy with the motor in or does it need to be out. We were planning on dropping in the tranny this weekend at my cookout.

I'm not really sure, Bryan. If anything, you would only need to lift the engine slightly instead of removing it completely.
