Fuel filter placement?

Any recommendations on the best fuel filter and where to place it? I was running one after the pump on my 307 and would get vapor lock issues during the summer, so been running with out it, just have the sock on the pump and filter at the carb. Have you experienced the same issues? Where is your filter? Maybe the filter i had was too big????

I always put a filter between the tank & pump on these old vehicles. The siphone effect keeps it full & it prevents foriegn particles from reaching the pump which can get into one of the check valves & cause it to fail.

Thats what im running and no problems for the last 11 years

How do you keep from flooding yourself when changing the filter? I've thought you generally put it between the carb & pump therefore higher then the elevation of gas in the tank.

Thanks guys, last night installed it between the tank and the pump, but at the pump if that makes any sense to u? Semed to be fine. Last year had it at the carb and it was giving me problems with vapor lock. Once I removed the filter it was fine but recently picked up some crudd in the carb so trying it again. Yet this time a smaller metal filter compared to the one that I had on there last yr. Soo good so far...

I have my filter between the pump and the carb and use two vice grips with flat pieces of metal in their mouth to squish the fuel line flat (Rubber obv) while I am switching it out. Moving forward, I am replacing it with hard lines soon and am looking to place two small valves on both sides of the filter to allow me to cut the flow.

I am now wondering if I shouldn't move the filter down in between the tank and the pump like you guys are saying....

i've seen lots of writups and TV articles by pros over the years saying not to have filter between tank and pump/ have read salot of guys vapor locking because of filter between tank and pump

Never heard of that one...always thought it went between the pump and carb.. close to the carb. I run my line on a nice arch away from the motor and its heat.
