Anyone built wood toolbox or cabinets?
Ive got a 1997 Chevy 1 ton SRW Cube van that I bought off Gov liquadation. I am a HVAC service tech and I need to build some parts and tool storage for it and I am looking for some ideas. I am not a carpenter but I do have carpentry tools. I remember seeing on the forum where someone had built a wood tool box that was painted red and had snapon stickers on it.
Thanks Chuck |

Re: Anyone built wood toolbox or cabinets?
My shop cabinets are a set of kitchen cabinets.I used 3 2 ft wide door cabinets with a 18 in wide drawer cabinet on one end.The top is made up of 4 2X8 8 ft long.I wanted a bit of overhang for vice clearance. If you watch CL the cabinets can be had for cheap to nothing. To fit them in a van box you might have to cut some reliefs in the back.

Re: Anyone built wood toolbox or cabinets?
used to have some wood boxes in an old van (complete with carpet, lol)
If I were in your shoes, I'd hit up CL, local junk yard, want adds looking for an old service truck that they're parting.

Re: Anyone built wood toolbox or cabinets?
if i remember to snap a few pictures tomorrow at work i'll post up what i built in my van. i made them out of 3/4 plywood and i lined all of the shelfs with carpet to help with the noise. the nice thing about making your own from scratch is that you can custom build them to fit exactly what tools or cases you have, plus the metal ones are outragously expensive and they're noisey as all get out

Re: Anyone built wood toolbox or cabinets?
from the way i read your original post i took it as you were looking for shelving units in a van for your tools/supplies even though i could be way off base. Well i finally remembered to take a couple of pictures of my work van. sorry for the less then stellar cell phone pictures and the mess that is going on in my van, none the less you'll get an idea.
