What tool for bed bolts?
Before I resort to drilling/cutting/welding-a-nut-to my bed bolts, I figured I'd try the old fashioned way of liquid wrench (or PB) and an impact. However, they look like they're not a lot of fun to get at.
I have dual saddle tanks to complicate things a little further. In any event, since I'm by no means the first to do this, I'll ask the elders: what tools did you find allowed you to access the nut while still getting decent torque on it? I'm hoping I'll be able to get a short socket and a universal and then an extension on it, but failing that, a wrench? |

As clean as your truck is a wrench will probably take them off, a ratchet wrench can be a live saver. On all my old crusty trucks I just torch them off from under neath with a gas wrench and buy some new ones.

Done, that was easy. I soaked them with PB about an hour before. I set the starter on the topside since I'm working alone to prevent them from popping up, and broke them loose. Then 9 of 10 (it's a Longhorn) came off with my fingers. Had to use a ratchet for one of them.
So either (a) PB is some magical voodoo, (b) I'm lot stronger than the rest of you guys, or (c) my truck was just clean enough that they weren't rusted on. I'll go with (b), but it's probably really (c). |
