66 questions

I am to look at a 66 tomorrow. isn't that the first year for the NON- stovebolt 6cyl. ? if it is a stovebolt 6 will a typical 70's TH350 still bolt to it? thanx , crossy

Re: 66 questions

Memory tells me the Stovebolt was used until 1962 and the 230 became standard in 1963. Wikipedia states it happened a year earlier. In any event a 1966 wouldn't have the "old" engine unless someone swapped it in.

Re: 66 questions

The 'stovebolt' I6's (216,235,261) were last used in the '62 model year. 1963 was the first year for the 230, and the 292 in the trucks. A '66 would likely have either a 250 or a 292, if it is original.

Re: 66 questions

I have a 66 with a 235...
someone transplanted it though....

as mentioned above 63 was the switch to the 230/292, and in 66 the 250 was added to the lineup. the nice thing about these 6's is that a modern chev th350 will bolt right up.

Re: 66 questions

No, the TH350 will bolt right up to the 194, 230, 250 and 292 I6's. And so will any other Chevy trans or bellhousing up until about 1999-2000.
