I need to get myself a stand and cherry picker!
What are some ideas to build these things?
Or is it easier to buy them ???
Who sells for less???

Buy one at Costco. They are dirt cheap now. You should be able to buy a cherry picker and and an engine stand for under 200 bucks Canadian.

You can buy engine stands pretty reasonable. Unless you are going to use a cherry picker/engine hoist a lot, it is easier to rent one when needed. They're not cheap to own (for a good one anyway), and they take up a lot of space.

I just bought a 2.5 ton fold up unit from Harbor Freight for $160 on sale. I do not use it alot and it is foldable, stays out of the way. My 1.5 ton stand from Harbor as well was even less, I want to say $40.

i picked a 2 ton up a local parts store for 179.99 came with engine level and many other parts

If you are not in a big hurry check out e-bay and your local advertizer/wooden nickel, etc. I got a local used very nice engine hoist (non-foldable) for $75. I have to agree with Barn9, it does take up space but it sure is nice not to have to borrow a hoist to pull the engine, bed and other things.

I saw the foldable 2 ton type at Goodguys and Pitts. part o-rama for around $120....this right after I paid $165 for mine at Quality Tractor

Fold-ups are easy to store out of the way. Only used it twice, once to pull an engine and the other to lift a bed.

I bought my engine stand they're inexpensive. If you pull and intall a lot of engines, then buy a cherry picker, if not rent one.

The cheapest engine stands are the three legged ones........they're junk. Don't waste your money on them. I have one. It's really unstable when trying to move it around with a motor on it. One with four casters will work much better and the widest ones are best as far as being stable. Larger casters will be better for moving across an uneven surface.

I almost bought a cheap picker but now I can for see problems!
I'll rent a bigg a55 mother and pull the moter and I'm going to try and lift the cab off with it too!( from other post)

Engine stands are cheap, I have 2 of them(one built & 1 bought).....the 1 I built was better! As for the picker, I have a fold up with an 8 ton ram......the best $250 I spent! When i was in my mid to late 20's, I didnt think anything about picking up a 200lb block & setting it in the @ss of my truck.....im in my mid to late 40's & that hurts now

i dont use the picker much, but its real handy for moving heavy parts around the shop. Good luck,crazyL

I borrowed a cherry picker from a friend of mine and he was so happy to have it out of his garage he hasn't asked for it back! That was two years ago. I've since loaned it to another friend a couple of months ago and it's been nice having the space (even though it's foldable) but it's time to get it back now.

Try Princess Auto. I know they have a store somewhere in Eastern Ontario (or maybe more than one). They put stuff like that on good sales regularely. I got my engine stand from them a couple of years ago and it has been fine. I don't have the cherry picker but I have looked and am tempted. I have a big beam in my garage that I use to lift motors but it means having to roll the vehicle back and forth for alignment rather than the picker.

I almost bought one from a mail order vendor. It was a folding 2-ton w/8-ton ram and attachable engine stand included on sale for $179.99. Unfortunately it would've cost me $210 bucks more to truck ship it from MN to Tucson, so I had to back out of the deal.
