Junkyard 3-door and '68 Panel... what parts?
The junkyard by my got in a 3-door Suburban, and a '68-era panel. I don't know the exact year.
I mainly play with '60-'66 trucks and Suburbans, so I know what the good parts are to get. What are the hard-to-find parts for the '67-72 3-doors and Panel trucks? I HATE that they're in the junkyard, but they won't sell the whole truck, just parts. The 3-door still has the middle seat... they're always missing on the '60-66 Subs. Are they hard to find on the later ones? What about headliner trim, windows, that third door, etc. etc. -Brad

Re: Junkyard 3-door and '68 Panel... what parts?
A few parts that come to my mind at the moment that are tough to find.
Tail gate, upper gate and the locking guts. Third door, and it's guts. Third row seat rear mount brackets. (the front hold downs are being reproduced now but small enough to grab). Head liner bows, and the chrome end caps. The plastic is usually brittle and damaged, but if they are pristine I'd grab them. Third door 67-68 trim piece (Only piece not being made yet). Barn doors, guts, and push button handle. Passenger inside panel behind driver seat. Third door inside panel. Fuel fill tube, and rock guard inside fender well.

I know from experience that the passenger seat bracket is different for a panel since the floor is flat. Most of the parts are the same excecpt the front hinge mount for the seat.

If it has good lower rear quarter panels and tail light areas (rust free) they will sell.

Re: Junkyard 3-door and '68 Panel... what parts?
I have a 68 Chevy Panel, and some hard stuff to find (amongst the items already mentioned) was the inner wheel wells...I used truck wheel wells but the panel had some cool grooves that i wish I could have preserved. The Marine plywood floor is worth a fortune if it's in good shape.
Also, I've recently been looking for the chrome shifter (on the column) and retaining pin without much luck so maybe they're becoming harder to find? I know a fella had a WTB add and wasn't getting any luck recently as well. That's all for now. Rob |

Front doors are also a good pick if they're decent, square corners.Sub spare wells in good shape, bed strips,as stated, wheel wells. The other thing for a panel I might consider is the sides/Quarter no window panels. They are not common to find in any kind of shape though the lowers usually go first.Check for a 6 cyl in the panel and for PS.I've never seen one with it,but most have had the 6.The spot where the 4 th door would be from the drivers door to the weel arch would be of intrest to me if the part was in great shape and the $$$ was right.

If the suburban has rear air, check to see if the vents and the trim around the vents are in good shape.

Re: Junkyard 3-door and '68 Panel... what parts?
Any lower 1/4's that are not rusted would be great find.Inner and outer rockers are always bad or so it seems. Any of chrome thats not pitted might be good grab and could tunr you a extra buck or 2. Have seen few panels that need the sides replaced from where someone installed a window at one time and normaly thats good(how do you remove w/o f----ing it up). All of the windows especaily side and rear that are easy to ship.
