My 70 swb has a 327

without acc bolt holes in the heads and I want to put on one of the serpintine setups I have so that I can easily add power steering. I have the steering box I have the late serp setups, Ijust need bolt holes . I know some of you guys have run into this what did you do. I don't want to swap out the motor for a later one But I will if I need to to get the bolt holes. My plan is to add a T-5 5 speed[ I already have the camaro and the s-10 trans's] Van tilt [with the collar shaved smooth] power steering and brakes. It is getting close on the go list at the shop since I did'nt buy anything today at the sale and it will be two weeks until the next one. I've only got a couple in front of it now so I need to start a plan. Please help with ideas

Can't you drill and tap the heads for the holes you need? I would think so...

That was my thought by bolting on the bracket on the bottom bolts[ I am almost sure they are in the same spots]

Re: My 70 swb has a 327

I've drilled and tapped the old style heads and made spaces to fit before. Watch you don't drill too deep, though. I learned you can drill deep enough to hit an oil galley. It will seep out the bolt. I guess some RTV would seal it. I had no other problems from it in that motor. I did others and just didn't drill as deep.
I traded my bossed heads for some early 64cc heads because I wanted my 327 to look vintage (68 truck 327). But now it has an air gap intake with no oil tube and hasn't been installed yet. I'm considering a set of aluminum heads or Vortecs for the performance and convenience of using later mount with the headers. You could always change heads.

A Good set of 041s would fix you up 186's have bolt holes too if I'm not mistaken.

041s are 64cc too

Re: My 70 swb has a 327

CC69 rat you know I can talk about bondo all day but I have never been one to follow or have an indepth knowledge of the casting numbersand what then mean and witch one are the ones to have. So I don't have any idea what 041's are but I think I remeber 186's to be early 70's heads? I have a set of fresh heads that I took off of my 70 model 4 bolt main 350 that I replaced the heads[never run since rebuilt] with vortecs. I may dig them out and check the numbers on them

Re: My 70 swb has a 327

041 heads will be 300hp 350 heads, late 60'S. I had a set till a few months ago. Thats the heads you want in my opinion... unless your 327 is built to race spec. The 186 heads have accessory holes too but hard to find. Im pretty sure the 041 heads are 64cc combustion chambers so if youre running domes or similar it might put your final comp a little high for the street.

Look for an impala from the late 60's or early 70s, the ones with the SB400 have 186 heads as i recall.

Some Dart iron eagle heads would work too

The 041 and 186 numbers he's referring to are the last 3 numbers on the head castings.

Re: My 70 swb has a 327

I am aware of the casting numbers, I just never really kept up with or translated it to what heads had witch numbers. My 327 is def not built to race spec, It was a crate motor. My truck came from the local school dist. It was driven by the head of the bus shop. He had a large stack of 327 engines that gm gave the school a deal on when they stopped the new 327 replacement program. He had saved this last crate 327 for "his Truck" and a few years before he retired he had it put in. They told me it had less than 2000 miles on it. It is stock with a bottom pulley that seems like it can turn 15 belts. My plan was to put in a 260 or 268h cam, 600 Edelbrock and a performer intake and an hei along with the serpintine setup.
