'72 Blazer Top - Repair or Replace
I have a '72 which is at the painter getting de-rustified and repainted orange.
My question is in regard to my top . . . the previous owner hit a tree and cracked the top (above the passenger side window) and I damaged the fiberglass during removal . . . . I would like to find a nice top to replace my original, but I would like to know what any of you have paid to have your tops repaired, smoothed and repainted. I have a feeling that this might cost more than I want to spend. If anyone has a good top in California, Arizona or Southern Nevada for sale or know of one in a boneyard I'd appreciate a heads-up! Thanks Mike- |

do you have any pictures of the damage. everything is fixable with enough money. I guess it all depends on your abilities as a glasser. I have a bunch of friends that work in boat yards, so I have a wealth of information to draw from. I put a 2 foot gash in the side of my top from a stray branch a year or so ago and fixed that. I also had a tree branch fall on my top and crush it. I ended up getting a new top after that. good luck on the search

I had a friend who works on boats do my top. It was in okay shape to begin with, but he patched a few split areas and sanded it smooth. It looks great! Probably better than when it was brand new. He did the work for 450, but said afterwards if he was to do it for anyone else he would charge ALOT more! He said it was lots of hours of hand sanding...and we all know how fun that is! Here's a pic.

Sorry I don't have any photos of the damage, but the damage goes through from the outside to the inside. It's craked on the lip above the glass horizonatally.
I am going to ask some fiberglass shops in my area for estimates, but unfortunately I don't have the time to repair and sand it myself. I was hoping to find a good one nearby that I could buy and repaint. Hope springs eternal. Mike- |

1970blazin - I would guess that it would cost A LOT more for all the work you had done to your top. You basically have a brand new top! I can't wait to see it all in person. Of course, that is going to make me feel bad about my rig

You might try in the phone book as to anyone who is into Corvette repair. I know of one in Northern Calif that is great. I think that woulod be your best bet on a repair that will be done right and look good.. Good luck!
I have a buddy in Grants Pass that has one for sale..FRENCH BLUE72... You might try him |
