Tie rod clearance

Does the later model '73-'87 frontend cross member have more clearance?
I was looking at mine after reading the power steering threads and it looks like my tie rod is so close it's rubbing at times.

Re: Tie rod clearance

My 64 c10 has a 84 cross member under it. The front wheel are 6.5 wide, but with the standard 4" backspace. When turning all the way one way or the other it rubs on the inside of the wheel lip. I think a different backspace would fix the problem or a thin spacer.

Re: Tie rod clearance

Are you talking about the outer tie rod clearance? Or the center link clearance?

Re: Tie rod clearance

I am talking about the outer tie rods rubbing the inner wheel lip.

The part between the two control arms.

Cool Re: Tie rod clearance

I don't have measurements or a better pic... but it's close on mine as well. It was with the factory power steering, the donor front clip I bought and with the center link on my truck are all pretty close.
