carpet question

had a retard moment. When we were putting the insulation for under the dash in we put the foil side up when its supposed to be face down for more sound dampening. oh well too late now, but my question is that when we put the carpet it i didn't realize that it stopped lower under the dash then i expected. now that shiney foil just sticks out like sore thumb. any one know of a way to cover this up? i could get some more carpet and have it fitted but it would be a P.I.T.A. in my mind. Paint? idk just throwing some ideas out. thanks. (carpet is black if that matters)

If it was my truck I would take it apart and flip the insulation over.

That said if you don't want to redo it I guess you could peel back the carpet a little and brush/roll on some POR15 (in flat black) and it wouldn't look that bad.

see i thought about flipping it over, but i used that spray on glue and that stuff is hard to get off, and i don't want to ruin the insulation part.

The original black fiber board firewall insulation would have covered the area between the carpet and underdash area. That is how my Blazer is. Get a repop, cut it down to the area you need (if you don't put the whole thing in) and put it in.

Yep, you need the original black fiber board insulation for that area. I know it's reproduced for passenger cars, not sure about these trucks though.

It is reproduced. You will have to remove part of your inside heater boxes and your gas pedal assembly if it is a 71 or 2. Try to save the rubber grommets that hold it in to reuse because the hard plastic ones that come with the repops are junk.

They were of good quality, and if I remember correctly, they were made in USA.

The warning about the fasteners/plugs is true... be sure to keep the old ones. the new plastics are junk. Order extras because you will break half of them in the process of installing the pad.

I know that they are prob not the cheapest, but call the phone number and ask for Ron (I think). The customer service is outstanding. if you spend a couple bucks more, at least you know there is someone that actually cares on the other side of the phone.
They know these trucks. Also, unrelated, they have a decent selection of used parts. but don't rely on their website... they are a mom & pop operation and you should just pick up the phone and call them rather than messing with online orders.

Wes at Classic Heartbeat has Firewall pad retainers just like the orginals. I have used them and they are Great!!!!!

If you want to spray something on it I'd suggest Duplicolor Truck and Bed Coating.
Sprays on easy, coats well, comes out semi gloss, and is durable.
Comes in a spray can at my local Napa for around $14.
Just mask off everything you don't want coated.

i thought about the fiberboard but i reall dont want to tear all that insulation back out...espeacially its quite pricey. the original kind of material is on the backside of the aluminum(aluminum was supposed to be face down, but didn't realize that till after the glue was set)
