76 K10 Cab Question

I was wondering if all 4x4 square body trucks should have bolt in trans tunnels? Thanks.

Re: 76 K10 Cab Question

Check the electical fuse box also mine is a 76 and it has glass fuses. I am not sure when they stopped using them but it also might help. Does it have the 81 or new dash pad? Someone else might be able to help to try and help you figure it out. But a couple of my thought anyways

Re: 76 K10 Cab Question

I am about 99% sure it has glass fuses (I forgot to look) and the dash pad was covered in tweed so it hard to say.

Big difference in the shapes of the 73-80 compared to 81-91. You should be able to tell no problem.

Re: 76 K10 Cab Question

Just looked on-line, boy are you right they are like night and day, my truck has the early dash pad. I think the cab is the right vintage, I'm just not sure if it is the trucks original cab. The bed is newer, the fuel door was welded up and the filler was moved to the passenger side and the tailgate has the offset Chevrolet script, so this truck has been messed with. After about a year of owning it I realized that the VIN tag is missing. I knew the VIN on my 69 was in the door jam but I didn't realize that it should be in the same place on the 76. This is why I am asking. The cab has a low hump, one piece floor. It had a 3 on the tree that has been converted to floor shift and a 205.

Re: 76 K10 Cab Question

A low hump 1 piece floor is a 2wd cab. Sound like it was a automatic cab also. Vin # should be on the door jam also.

Re: 76 K10 Cab Question

Yeah, I realized the VIN location this winter when I was pulling parts from a 76 GMC in the Junk Yard and I saw the VIN in the door jam. I need to go over the frame and see if I can find a VIN on it.

Mine is on the outside of the frame on the passenger side under the passenger side floor boards.

Re: 76 K10 Cab Question

Thanks for all the info madcow, I'll have to wire brush the frame and see what I find.
