66 GMC short step rust bucket

Whsts up everybody? Finally ready to start a build thread. Progress will be slow, but hopefully steady.

Quick story; my father purchased this truck for a dd/project in 2001. He passed away Aug. 23, 2002 less than a year later at the age of 40. I was 14 at the time.

Now, coming up on 10 years in August since he passed, my goal is to have the truck running driving and registered by then in memory of him! Nope, no resto yet, just need to get it running! It's been sitting in my backyard since my dad passed.

Here it is last summer.
My girlfriend steering it, I dragged it to the driveway with the tractor

Re: 66 GMC short step rust bucket

About a month ago is when I started tinkering, I threw the front clip back on. It's literally just sitting there, I don't have ANY of the bolts for the fenders, inner fenders, rad support, grille, nothing!

Then, I pulled the drivers side spring out.

Cut 1 & 1/2 coils

Hit it with some chassis paint

I took the wheel & tire to work. Dismounted the tire and had the wheel sandblasted. It had 3 coats of paint on it!

Painted the wheel, and got a set of Bullet lug nuts through summit racing.

Here is the passenger side which I will be starting this weekend

Here's the drivers side. New tire also, 235/75r15.

Some more misc. pics

Pulled the carb off, don't know if I should buy a new one or have it rebuilt.

Oh and check out the Smog pump! Haven't seen many of those

Any idea what rear end this is?

Re: 66 GMC short step rust bucket

Most recently, I threw the grill and headlight assembly back in. Again, it's literally just resting place as I don't have any of the bolts!

Re: 66 GMC short step rust bucket

Some rust

Cab mount

Above windshield

Passenger

Driver

Missing both sides bolts for inner fenders to firewall

Missing all fender bolts, both sides

Missing all the hardware for fender to header panel

Missing rad support to frame hardware

That's all for now! I will uploaded more pics as I make progress, or if somebody requests a picture of something! Thanks for reading! I'll need all the advice and help I can get on this one!

Currently going through the process with the courts here in MA to get a title. My father died suddenly and didn't have a will, and him and my mom were divorced so now I'm going through the Probate snd Family Court to get a Certified Document that I'm the Executor of the Estate. Damn them and their $115.00 filling fee! Once that goes through I should be able to go to the registry and get a title.

Re: 66 GMC short step rust bucket

Thought id throw up a couple cool things I've found

Behind the seat, original build sheet. Mice got to most of it and it crumbles if touch, it will stay there

Re: 66 GMC short step rust bucket

Also, some very cool original documentation for the truck

Owners Manual

Warranty booklet

AND, The original dealer checklist before delivery for the truck! It was folded and mice got to this also, but still very cool
