Okay I guess I'll go look at it Saturday then I'll check out how bad it really is then I'll make a decision.

Really 3-4 thousand? That is crazy.
Welcome to the rust belt north of the border. Asking price for a lot of rust buckets, especially if they have some glimmer of a shine like the OPs get priced about the same as trucks that got some tlc.
A southern US truck in good condition usually starts at $13k. One I looked at last summer (1980) faded and rubbed through paint, dead body bushings, small dings, inop A/C, had an asking price of $9000.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

Thats the beauty of our money being at par or better, we don't have to buy trucks here, we can go south and get a great deal. I have seen plenty of trucks up here, like axle said, and I skip right over them. Back when our dollar was less they were worth it, but now, they are just over priced.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

That's what I thought.

I know guys that live up there, in the 80's and early 90's it was a big deal to come down here to the US, buy a car and take it back to Canada to sell for profit. Not so much anymore though.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

It's in about the same condition as the '85 GMC I have out back. I got it purely for a parts truck.
I honestly can't say DON'T buy it,but it will probably have the 305,and the q-jet carb that has the electrical idle mix control on top.A known problem maker.
If it starts well, and runs decently,I could see $300,but no more than $400.
What kind of work do you do?

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

I agree with many of the others, I would pass on this truck. I know I am only a couple of hours south of you, but if you look hard enough you can find a lot better truck for around 1k.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

I disagree. If it's going to be a work truck. I say buy it if it runs and drives good. No sense in beating to piss out of a nice solid truck. Drive it till it pukes then scrape it. Even if you pay 500 for it and get 300 scrape, You'll do more than 200.00 dollars in damage to a good truck working out of it. Plus when the snow gets there, you don't have to worry about it rusting out.

Some interesting opinions here, I guess much will have to be considered.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

Go get it I don't think I am going to buy it, it needs just as much body work as the truck I have now. I will probably put that money into the black truck.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

Yeah any truck that is older then 5 years in Indiana is rusty. Just saying not trying to go against anyone.

Agreed for the most part. depends if the PO took care of it or not.

That truck dont look to awful bad. put a couple hundred in some bedside patch panels rockers, cab corners, get a couple of good used doors, and some inner fender wells, it would pretty decent. I would guess in our area that would be about a $800 truck providing it runs ok. so $800 plus about $200-300 for sheet metal repair and a gallon of primer. you would prolly have a decent truck for less than $1500 How is that cab and fenders you have out back? could you use any of that?

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

I won't be getting this truck, it will need just as much body work as my black truck so I will put the same amount of money into it to replace the body. The cab is good but has small holes that need to be fixed. The fender is perfect and just need to actually put it on. Oh yeah congrats on starting your business venture.
