so, i'm gettin really close to starting the swap in the 66. it is going to be a 100% daily driven vehicle. i'm goin to drive it till my 13 y/o gets his license. then it's going to be his (he's payin for half afterall). right now i'm not even planning headers but in the future it may get a screwcharger and headers. so, do i just stick with my iron 5.3 or do i spend the extra for an L33 now? i'm fighting between the two common sence parts of it. it's going to be "just a truck" and really the lm7 would be fine. then again, for a lil more money you get the good heads, the lil better internals and have potential. so, what do you guys think? anyone bought one and wished they'd done the other.

i already took your advice and got a boyd tank instead of the Z28 tank i already had. let's hear whatcha got to say about this.

IMO the iron 5.3 is MORE than proven and powerful enough for daily use. Besides that, the L33 was only in 4x4 trucks 05-07 (from what I see) so you couldn't get a pullout engine and trans combo. If you find a 5.3 with a 4l60 behind it, you can buy the pair and a savings compared to the cost of finding the L33. On top of that, if you do want to run forced induction, the iron block doesn't hurt. Save the price difference, and put it towards fun stuff or maybe suspension or tires?

A 5.3l with a cam/headers and tune can pump around 400 ponies at the crank, what more would you want you teenager to be in control of?

My thoughts are the same

I turned a teen age kid loose in a sb Chev powered Ferd ranger(he survived it, but it made a few more grey hairs on the old man ,just thinkin about it)! have fun, but keep him safe....crazyL

There won't be any added power for awhile.
I won't be letting any upgrades happen till he drives a few years and proves responsible.
I'm sure we'll make regular trips to the track to satisfy his speed needs in either the wagon or the truck. I talked to yatesefi today and he's gettin me a deal on a l33/4l60 combo. So, it looks like thats where this is headed

Still a good choice. Are you gonna change the tailshaft on the trans then?

He's gettin a 2wd trans. He buys enuff engs/trans they work with him more than they would me. Goin DBC also. I need to search but I think I saw most are having good luck with the tbss manifolds fitting well.

Gotcha, it sounded like they were a "pair", so I assumed it was 4wd. The tbss manifolds work well.

ok, next question. the search functions on these forums are mediocore at best.

what trans member are guys using on the 66 style frames? i have a 3 spd man now. slow but sure the parts list is gettin complete to start.

got to look at a truck with 5.3 swap yesterday. i didn't realize how little room there is for a radiator. not sure a 31" wide is gonna fit?

Mine is 25" wide, 3core Aluminum. cools my 4.8 in the Texas heat WITH AC
