Re: It's just a work truck!

This is what I came with for the tail gate. I wanted the original tail gate, the two I had were to bad to use, a new one is 400 bones. and I don't like some of the stock ones, let's say FLAWS. So we decided to go to plan "b". My brother had a tail gate skin he did'nt use on his trk, so I snagged it and made my own out of the two I had, plus the latches from the 73 doner trk.

Still not finished with the gate yet, I put it a side for later. It will be one of the last things finished I'm sure.

Re: It's just a work truck!

Here is a few scary pic's standing the bed on end to clean and undercoat the bottom. I know we don't have much rust here in AZ, but I undercoated everything. I used Rust-oleum's roll on bedliner kit from Walmart. I don't like it for a bedliner, but I think it will work good for a undercoat/sealer. I don't recommend standing up a 8ft bed with a engine lift by yourself, my wife about $h-t her pant's when I yelled for her to hurry help me before I dropped it.

Re: It's just a work truck!

Dino, I said saturday that we ARE going to Brother's show in July. That's two month's away still!. Of coarse I was planning to have it at Goodguy's in March, that did'nt happen, so I said that I would make Central Cruise, well that did'nt happen. I WILL MAKE BROTHER'S!... I don't know if my bro Jeff is going to drive his 63, or just ride with me?. His 63 is going to get painted as soon as we can get mine out of my garage. I started running wire's on Sunday, If I don't make Brother's, Someone kick me in the #UT'S!!!!!!

Re: It's just a work truck!

Here are some pre-paint fit and assembly pic's. We put the hole trk together to fit and fabricate everything, ( I THOUGHT? ). Then you make a dozen more changes along the way. Everything fit pretty good, we had to massage the door gap's a bit. We used new fenders, not the best but, they are what they are!.. Welded the seam's on the front fenders. Heck, all the seam's are welded up on the trk!... I keep saying ( IT'S JUST A WORK TRUCK! )...

Re: It's just a work truck!

Here are some pic's from sunday. this is how it is today. My brother & Don came out and we got the hood, grill and a few other things done. Still not running yet. We're running the wires now. Had a problem with the fan and radiator. I hope to fire it up by the end of next weekend.

Re: It's just a work truck!

I just put my dash panel together today. My brother and friend Don tried to talk me out of painting the nice new shinny insert, but I like orange!... I'm happy with the way it look's. Matches the glove box side of the dash now.

Re: It's just a work truck!

OK back to the older pics of the frame. Nothing fancy, I did mount the battery on the frame under the bed to get it out of the eng compartment. Sprayed some black rattle can paint on it and called it good!. ( IT'S JUST A WORK TRUCK! )... Dropped motor & trans in.

I love your build thread, full of ideas. What was the tailgate skin for originally? I too am building a custom tailgate and I was wondering about a skin

Re: It's just a work truck!

I used the fiber board visors and had them and the headliner done by a pro. I knew not to even try to do them..
