74 chevy radio?
hey guys its me again
i have a question the previous owner installed a pioneer radio or kenwood (dont have pics at the moment or truck in front of me) what i wanted to know is isn't the radio suppose to keep its memory when the truck is turned off? I looked at the wires briefly and noticed the previous owner just cut the factory radio harness off and wired the radio in I noticed that the red wire, yellow wire and orange + and orange - were all wired together? also how do i wire the antenna? people been telling me these copper wires in the windshield are the antenna? I noticed there is a metal tab on the inside where i guess the wires in the windshield connect to it, but how do i connect the radio antenna wire to it? |

Re: 74 chevy radio?
The red wire off the radio should go to a switched power source(such as the original radio power wire). The yellow wire needs to go to a constant 12V source. It sounds like both are wired to a switched source, and that is why there is no memory retention in your case.
Check up under the dash about the same place the metal tab is. There should be a female antenna end that you can plug the radio antenna lead into. That is if someone hasn't butchered it. |

Re: 74 chevy radio?
Just run the yellow wire to the fuse box to a constant powered terminal. Be sure that the yellow wire has a fuse on it.

Re: 74 chevy radio?
You could run to the cig lighter if you want. But most fuse boxes will have some constant power tabs to hit.
You dont need to use the power antenna wire (unless you have a power antenna that goes up and down) this lead is to activate power antennas on a power antenna equipped vehicle. So if you dont have an actual power antenna just tape or cap it off because it will be 12v live when your deck is turned on. Your antenna to the deck is the bigger round plug, kinda like a mini plug that you would put into a cigarette lighter. There is only one place to put that in the deck. The deck is the female side.

Re: 74 chevy radio?
I ran my constant power from the connection on the fuse block,
It had two wires one going to the clock, and another one wire to add something I just ran the wire with a fuse to the yellow radio wire It worked perfectly Ran a copper wire to the antenna in the windshield to the radio antenna wire It's just temporary for now Posted via Mobile Device |
