Re: 2 Questions
You can change the gasket with the vehicle in the truck. Depending on clearance you may not be able to take the pan out and will just have to work with it there having a few inches of clearance. Keep in mind that there is a rubber seal on the top and bottom of the crank. Most peeps just change the bottom rubbers in the pan and pan gasket. That said you can remove the top seals. Removing and pulling in the top seal can be done with the motor in the vehicle and not taking out the crank, this is done by pulling it out with a hook type tool and pulling in the new one with a wire fished through and attached to the new seal. You can modify the tab a bit on the side of the seal being pulled through to make the pull easier and also use lube.

Re: 2 Questions
I watched a vid on you tube of a guy changing the gasket but he had the motor out of the truck and upside down. I'm sure that's the easiest way to do the job but not very practical for me.
He used a 4 part gasket, the 2 rubber thingies that go over the crank shaft end a the 2 cork thingies that go along the oil pan sides. are you referring to the 2 rubber thingies or are there other gaskets deeper inside that I don't know about? |

Re: 2 Questions
One piece gaskets have been referred to me. If you're gonna take the time to tear it down like that... might as well buy the best gasket you can, because they are a pain in the butt to do with the motor still in the truck. Make sure you use rtv in the front and rear of the pan where the "u-shaped" part of the pan is. Good luck
