Got bit again...

Well, I got bit again.. my 3rd 80's truck.. I had an 85 and an 87, now I got an 86. Fixing her up to be my daughters first vehicle. She asked for one, I promise!

Super clean, needs a paint job. It has a carbed 4.3 v6 with a TH400 trans that someone swapped in. Originally came with a TH350 according to glove box. No kick-down cable sucks big time. The trans will be swapped out for a 700R4 this summer.

Been lowered 2.5 spindles on front and 4" shackles in back. Has stock 7" rally's.

Re: Got bit again...

Nice truck there for the daughter. I think it's great to see the younger generation have an interest in square body trucks. With the V-6 and future 700R4 in place it should get decent mileage.

Re: Got bit again...

I have an 86 as well with the same drop. I am sure your daughter will enjoy it as much as you will fixing it up.

Re: Got bit again...

Thanks! Took awhile to find a clean one to start with, but it still needs a few things done. I'll have plenty of questions on the carb and tranny swap for sure!

Nice looking truck, your daughter is lucky.
My buddy has 4 squares now, a 75 sierra long box 2wd pro touring project, an 89 jimmy DD, an 84 short box 4x4 lifted on 35's summer DD, and an 84 long box 4x4 mud truck. So I think your still good.

Re: Got bit again...

That is really nice! Also, T400's are electronic kickdown, not cable operated. Check to see if your gas pedal assembly in the cab has the appropriate bracket and kick down switch and see that it is hooked up to the tranny.

Re: Got bit again...

Cool. I thought none of the TH400's had kick-down. I'll check but I know for sure its not hooked up. It never kicks down. The cable was missing of the throttle bracket which led me to find out it's a TH400 and not the original TH350.

Re: Got bit again...

Yeah, should be a switch mounted to the accelerator pedal bracket. Power comes in one side and goes out the other down to the one wire connection on the drivers side of the transmission. When the accel pedal comes in contact with the switch, it slides and makes contact to power the kickdown solenoid in the trans. Here's a helpful thread...

Nice truck!

Truck looks like it is in great shape. I thought the 350 or 400 (can't remember) has a vacuum operated kickdown. If I remember right.

I actually only have 1.

I sold my 87 3 years ago. I've been driving a Camry till I got this 86 a month ago. Talk about a different kind of drive to work everyday.

RPO code MX1 is a TH-350 from what I can gather. That's what is listed in glove box and on sales options sheet.
