Door question

Is it normal for a stock door to look like someone just cut the upper part off? Rough metal? If I didn't know any better I would think the PO put truck doors in and cut the upper part off. Are there supposed to be covers/caps on the doors?

Re: Door question

Yes and yes. My passenger door is original and the driver's is from a '72 truck. One was cut by the PO and the other was cut by the factory - they look identical, except the Blazer has two tapped holes in the top of the vent glass frame for screwing on the plastic caps.

Re: Door question

The originals do look like someone just cut them. There is supposed to be a cap on the top of the vent window and a plug on the back of the door on the bottom side. The Blazer doors have a reinforcement plate around the door latch area and the truck doors do not.

Re: Door question

Do these pics help determine anything?

Re: Door question

You're probably going to need new doors. In the middle pic where the window frame ends - it should continue up a little and then come straight back for an inch or two to cover the top of the vent window. You could cut out a donor piece from any door and weld it up, but by the time you find a donor door and get everything perfectly aligned and welded, it'll probably be easier just cutting down truck doors or finding real Blazer doors.

Re: Door question

This is what the top of your doors should look like. Also note the hole in the belt line of the door. Aside from '72s (which will have the hole pressed in as opposed to drilled like this one), Blazer doors are the only ones to have these. An extra screw goes there to help brace the door.

Re: Door question

Thanx for the info/replies. The weird thing is is that the color of the doors is correct and also the year. This sticker is on the drivers door and has the same/correct vin#. Still unsure what I have.
