Upper control arm Bolts!

I have gotten into the front end of my 69 chevy C-20 on a 71 frame. Need to replace it all. The drivers side every thing went smooth (as could be expected) The passanger side i had to cut off the upper control arm bolts.
These bolt are serrated and there is NO backing plate, the holes in the frame seems to be a bit out of round and a bit oversized. Whats the fix? weould send pics but don,t have working camera. Sorry guys)

Re: Upper control arm Bolts!

If the upper control arm bolts don't fit tightly in the cross member then it could be a problem! The bolts are held in the cross member with a press fit with the splines engaged to prevent the bolts from turning. Replacement bolts are available but it sounds like the cross member holes are too loose too hold them. My suggestion would be to replace the cross member unless there are replacement bolts with larger splines available.

Is the area around the bolts solid or is it rusty?

Here is a photo of the upper a-arm bolts installed in the crossmember for reference just to make sure that we are talking about the same thing.

Jim

lmctruck.com has them. Pg 134 item 8. Other vendors probably sell them also.
