67 C10 Suspension Help

Well, turns out the front and rear suspension on my truck needs to be rebuilt. The ball joints, steering box, etc needs to be repaired or replaced on the front and the springs and shocks on the rear need replacement. Bummer!

So I'm going to start with the front end work first and take care of the rear a little later.
I don't want to lower, bag or tube my truck, but I do want to improve the ride and reliability.

Here's where things get fuzzy...I really want to maintain the original configuration, but are the reproduction control arms the only way to go? Has anyone used these units in a rebuild? My normal auto mechanic has suggested that GM made re-inforced versions of the control arms that were used in service vehicles that may fit.

The original suspension has lasted for 45 years, I'm guessing new units whether repros or not will last beyond my lifetime.

For the rear, the truck has three springs on each corner. They have the original coils, aftermarket forward helper leaf springs AND coil over shocks! I plan to remove everything and only install new oem coil springs and standard shocks.

I would just buy high quality Moog front end parts and rebuild what you have.
Also add a good set of gas shocks.
www.earlyclassic.com is a good source for parts for these old trucks.
Install a new set of stock height coil springs and you are set.

The addition of a front sway bar will dramatically improve the way it drives.

I assume you are keeping the stock front drum brakes?

For now, do to budgetary constraints, the truck will remain a drum brake, manually steered vehicle. The plan would be to convert it to power brakes and power steering sometime in the future.

The cab needs some help on the underside which you can't tell from the picture.

I just today finished rebuilding an entire suspension. Everything, ball joints, tie rod ends, idler arm, pitman arm, everything.

Moog parts at the local parts store were 760 dollars.

Moog parts at Summit were about 600 dollars.

Moog parts from Amazon.com were 420 dollars and free shipping. No one, anywhere, is even close to those prices. Good stuff, quick delivery, and huge savings.
