Re: wtb 6 cly. tach head
Hi, Question for you would a 6 cylinder tach read higher if installed on a 8 cylinder? The reason I ask is that my tach reads higher than the actual rpm. Are the tachometers marked 6 or 8 cyl? Thanks, Paul

I will have to pull my instrument cluster and see I will let you know. Unless you find one before I can get back to you.

Re: wtb 6 cly. tach head
-
A 6 cylinder tach should read about 30% higher than actual rpm on a v8. The ink stamp should say either 6CYL or 8CYL. and if you can read it, the part numbers are.. 6CYL #6468321 ... 8CYL #6468228 There is a small screw on the back of the tach with a piece of tape covering it up. Just adjust it using another tach for reference, (both hooked up to the same engine). Sorry about the hijack, Glen... LockDoc

Re: wtb 6 cly. tach head
I have an OEM 6 cylinder tach that I will be posting for sale here on the board late tonight when I get home. It will need to be restored. I will post you a link to the ad when I list it.

Re: wtb 6 cly. tach head
Glen- Here are some pics. It needs to be restored. There are no burn marks on the circuit board, however I have not tested it. It is stamped 6 CYL on the back, it is faded and won't show up in the pic. It is easily seen when you are holding it in your hand. $100 Shipped. 6 cylinder tachs are pretty rare to come by, so if you have a nicer V8 tach, and can adjust it as Leon described above, I would go that route.

Re: wtb 6 cly. tach head
I think locdoc meant your could adjust out the minor inaccuracies in the tach with the adjustment screws.
You would still need a 6-cylinder tach for an I-6 engine. Member 70shortfleet sells a "tach face" decal that take the tarnished look out of your old worn tach. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ight=tach+face (my opinion,... $100 is a super deal, for the 6-cylinder tachs)

Re: wtb 6 cly. tach head
Glen, you have first call on it since I posted here in your thread. I priced it based on what I have seen V8 tach heads in the same condition sell for. If I had obtained it from a running truck and it was not so weathered I would price it much higher. I figure since it is for a 6 it is worth restoring. Thanks.
