Need more rear support for my 72 4x4
Hi, I searched for a topic covering this but couldn't find one. Basically, I have a dead-stock 72 1/2 ton 4x4 short step-side and I'm thinking about pulling a travel trailer once in a while. Some of them have pretty heavy tougue weight and I was wondering what my options would be to add some rear support. I have the stock 2 leaf with the one overload leaf. What about coil-over shocks or do they make air bag systems that can be used in addition to my leafs? I don't want to make any perminent changes that can't be undone later.
I'm hoping you guys can steer me to the best options for my rig. Thanks, |

I would look at ridetech.com and look at there airoverleaf kits, they blot in and can be taken out. Also a stabilizer hitch and/or a sway bar will help allot.

Re: Need more rear support for my 72 4x4
I have two 3/4 ton 72 Chev 4x4 work trucks that I put overload air bags on. I bought them from JCWhitney. They are for a 73 and up but they work for me.
I carry an extra 1500 pounds on the back and pull trailers. These work great because you can air them up or down depending on your load.

Yeah you'll be fine with helper bags in the rear.

Re: Need more rear support for my 72 4x4
thanks for all your feedback. I'm going to look into overload airbags to help with the extra weight. An in-vehicle compressor and regulator would be a good addition to the system i'm thinking.
Thanks again |
