Power steer'n made easy
Howdy all, thanks to the Captain got my sons power steering bolted up. Did this after work in the front yard. Took me about a hour and a half, easy. The quality is more than I expected, here's some pics.

After cleaning off the rust, she got engine paint on both sides, one piece at a time.

Re: Power steer'n made easy
You have a pic of connecting the steering shaft to the box ? Also why did you have to remove the idler arm. Thanks

Re: Power steer'n made easy
So that is what you have to do to go from a manual steering box to a power box, what year and what parts are used for the power box, I have to do this to a 72 Gm 2wd soon. Thanks.

Re: Power steer'n made easy
Your '72 shouldn't require the adapter plate. Any 69-87 power steering box should bolt right up. I may be off on the years by a bit. Look up CaptainFab's power steering adapter and read through the thread for specifics. Other later model owners have asked your same question and it's been answered there.

Re: Power steer'n made easy
I'll get to the steering shaft later, not hooked up yet. The c-member swap was from the 82 half ton, I wanted to use the idler of the same years, if you want to keep the old idler I supose you can, the newer ones are cheaper and more available than the 65's.

Re: Power steer'n made easy
I have a 69 parts truck with the factory power box, the frame is made for that, like the squares do. I think the differances are the turning ratio's from the 67-72 to the 73-87

Re: Power steer'n made easy
Here's the column I'm thinking about running. It's out of a 67 camper conversion with low miles. It had the 351V-6 and floor shift, that'll look better than the old broken tree shifter.

Re: Power steer'n made easy
Yeah I sure like the older vehicles. My buddy's car had no rust when he bought it, I helped him drop that second engine in, I rode on a milk crate for the test ride and ended up in the back seat, lol. That car runs like my wifes car, fast. Is you 47 custom?

Re: Power steer'n made easy
Before I go through the motor I need to run the brakes. I'll probably go with the Captains booster bracket for this job. Right now I'm saving to take my kids car to Maryland where he is stationed, bought the plain tickets back today, I don't like fly'n off the ground. I do have some free stuff I can do for now. Front stabalizer and brake booster and lines off the 82.
