Dash Lighting Questions

Did the heating/AC controls have lighting? I have two bulb sockets hanging free that I think may have been for illuminating these controls. If so, where do they go?

The in-dash brake warning light doesn't come on when the ignition switch is turned on. The bulb is good, so maybe the switch is bad? I'm hoping I don't have to replace the whole entire porportioning valve?

When the parking brake is applied, should the in-dash brake light come on? I don't see a switch on the parking brake assembly, so I'm guessing that it doesn't light up when the parking brake pedal is depressed.

Thanks!

Re: Dash Lighting Questions

The brake light should only come on if you have a fluid problem with your brake system, it doesnt come on if your parking brake is applied

Should be a round hole in the back of your heater control, i dont have air, so i dont know if there are two holes for an a/c system, could be a radio light for the second bulb

Not sure if the brake warning light will come on with the ignition switch, havent gotten that far yet

Re: Dash Lighting Questions

Thanks for the info. I can't see where the bulbs fit into the heater and A/C controls (mine has A/C). I guess I'll just have to fumble around until I find them.

The owner's manual indicates that when the ignition is first switched on, the brake light should light up to show that the bulb is working. Mine doesn't, but the bulb and socket are good. I tried them elsewhere and they worked. I guess it must be the switch??

Re: Dash Lighting Questions

your brake warning light should come on when you turn your key just before it reaches the start position for bulb check purposes.

Thanks!
Do they look like this? If so the push into the right and left end of the control unit. There will be holes on each side. Note that they have to be inserted to work as these are single lead sockets. The lamp used is a #1893 which according to my manual has an output of 2 candlepower. You might wish to use a #1816 which is 1/3 brighter with a candlepower output of 3.
