Brake booster

I am thinking about updating my brake system. I have a 69 chevy 4x4. It was a 1/2 to, but I upgraded to 3/4 axles. The master cylinder is the original with no brake booster. So I have manual brakes I guess. I would like to add a brake booster, but I am wondering what will fit. I looked at a booster for a 69 and it looks to big. I think it will hit the steering column and the oil dipstick coming out of the engine. Is there a smaller booster or am I just looking at this wrong?

Im not too 4x4 informed but as far as I know any booster from a 69 will work, be sure to get the entire mechanism and you may need to change the master cylinder.

Do your 3/4 ton axles have disc brakes?
Do you want it to look original?
Whats your budget?

The master cylinders for power vs. non-power brakes are different. I would buy the CaptainFab (board member/vendor) bracket HERE, add a newer style booster and the correct master cylinder.

Yes the front axle has disc brakes, no I'm not really concerned if it looks original, more concerned with functionality, and my budget is tight at the moment.

If you have auto column shift the Captain Fab bracket will not work. You'll need to check the local junk yards or the classified ads here for an assembly. You'll need the brackets and the distro block.... I will suggest a new/reman booster and master for a 72 K20 from a local parts store. Make sure the master gets bench bled to get all the air out..

Be sure to get the rod from the pedal to the bracket when you get your bracket. Ask me how I know. They are different between power and non-, and can be hard to find separate from the bracket.

Random thought: on the cars I've had there's a different hole drilled into the brake pedal for assisted vs. manual (you need more leverage with manual, so its further away from the pivot point). Not a big deal but a minor detail to check when you do the conversion.
