cutting the frame
Recently I watched "Car Warriors" with 2 72 C10 trucks. One team shortened the frame,longbed to shortbed. Then the other day I saw on Velocity channel, Lou and Jared did the same thing. On both shows the frame was cut in one vertical pass. I thought the correct way is to make an "ell" shape cut thereby making the joint stronger when welded.Im sure Ive seen this info before.The reason Im curious is I am thinking of shortening my 69 c30 to make a dually pickup.Any thoughts? Muley

Straight cut is fine, no reason to do the "L" cut method.

Ya i would say it doesnt matter as long as it properly welded and plated. Doing the "L" method might help make sure the frame is in proper alignment.

The L shape is preferred cause if a crack was to form along the weld the L should terminate it going further, this being as long as you radius the 90* corners on the cut. The added bonus is you have more weld holding together and better alignment.
While a straight cut is fine with reinforcing a renforced L would add more peace of mind if your worried Posted via Mobile Device

Either way will work it takes a little more time and measuring to use the "L" method But with either I still reinforce the frame.
