speedometer not working after trans replaced
I bought a truck and the transmission was just replaced. The guy I got truck from had just bought it and put a trans in it. Well my mechanic told me the trans is a newer model with electronic speedometer and I have original mechanic. Do they make an adapter to remedy this or will my mechanic have to open bell housing and replaced the magnet there with gears?

don't know but have seen where a shop didn't put a gear in because they didn't know the rear end,but that was a th350

I put A 700r in my truck and the mechanic had to get some sort of adapter for it to convert it back to the 84 style mechanism. I'll asked him what he had to do!!!

I got a 76 with a 350 and a 700r4 when I got the truck and the speedo worked exact then when the trans crapped out my buddy pulled it and put a 350 turbo in and the speedo stopped working, my luck that one crapped out two weeks after and I got it tow'ed to a trans shop and got the guy to rebuild my 700 and put it back in and now the speedo reads half my speed.guy said the clip didn't fit? I have no clue how to fix it so if you can fix yours please post ASAP it would be much help

I ended up buying the old style gear and my mechanic put it into the place of the newer magnet and it worked fine.

It sounds like he put the wrong drive gear on the mainshaft because he couldn't get a replacement clip to fit the original. I'd ask him to give you back your original drive gear. I'd also ask for the color and tooth count of the new one.
