argh son of a b - damn power steering conversion NO brackets work

trying to button up this forsaken truck and every single thing these days is a roadblock - not the least of which is the damn power steering conversion.

should have been simple - i have a 63 c10 with the stock 283, no AC, and the alternator is mounted in the upper right side of the engine.

i have everything done but installing the pow steering pump. now have spent 80$ on 2 brackets - neither of which work.

here is the pump i have: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...6930_2558_7023

the first is this one from jegs - i was directed by people on the forum to get this one.
http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS+Performan...60702/10002/-1

sure the bolt holes line up but its all cockeyed and crooked and i cant shim it to get it to be flush across the power steering pump itself.

so i bought this one: http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS+Performan...60795/10002/-1 based on what jegs said. this one isnt even close as it completely gets in the way of the belt to the alternator.

i am about to throw in the towel. does anyone have any insight - part numbers and parts sources would be great. i am seriously ready to take a match to this blasted thing.

Which water pump are you using?
Long pump?
Short pump?

The P/S brackets have to match the style water pump and alternator brackets that you are using.

Got any pics of your engine?

i have a short water pump. everything is stock for the 63 and i was told to try and use all matching PS conversion parts which are from a 79 c10 donor. so i got the 79 pump, pulley (they only had a 2 row pulley), box, lines, etc. i could just be being moron and maybe i didnt do it correctly i don't know.

You have to use pre-73 truck parts for a short water pump application.
(pre-69 passenger car parts)

yep, I'd have to agree with lolife. Is the problem that your pump's pulley seems to be way out in front of where it seems it should be? Then this is probably why.

Do you have any pics of what you have right now? I agree that you must have the correct brackets and pulleys for the style of water pump you are using. I usually recommend to use as many factory parts as I can when it comes to engine accessory drives. The trucks used short water pumps thru '72 and cars thru '68. That second bracket you got from Jegs should work. It is possible that you don't have the correct pulleys as well. There again, pics would help
