Bcubed's Garage

This garage has been built for a while now but thought I would post up the build process. It has gotten junked up as of late and I desperately need to clean it up and get it back to the state you will see here. Rather than have to wait, you'll get to see the whole buildup .. I pulled most of this from another forum so if any of the descriptions seem wonky, that will be why.

--------------

This will have two purposes, storing my vehicles, right now my truck is outside and every time I want to show it it is a big ordeal to clean it up. And then an area to work on my other projects.

I looked into a freestanding building, and have several options I could have went with. But the way the house is built, it also lends itself to an attached garage.

I already have a roughly 24' x 35' parking area. And am able to park three vehicles side by side in that area now. Also, there is enough concrete in front of that area (towards the street) to also park 3 more vehicles. So basically building a garage, I will still retain a driveway.

The 2 vehicles that will live here are my Silverado, and my on going, never ending project, a 1955 Chevy Pickup. The 55 is right now in pieces with the cab on a dolley.

Here are the pics .. this first one shows you how big it will be .. it will go almost to the expansion joint thats on the right .. the porch will be enclosed and made into a mud room. The door on the right is the storage room, and will has a sink and fridge, and shelving in it.

Re: Bcubed's Garage

First work in the garage .. repainting my airdam

Roof On

Windows, Doors and Insulation in.

Ceiling starting to go up.

Central Vac Inlet and VacPan.

Siding going up, the company that made the old siding is out of business and the color could not be found so the new vinyl is somewhat lighter.

Re: Bcubed's Garage

Ok, a little update .. didn't want anyone to think I hadn't been working on it.

When we built the garage, we enclosed the side porch that goes into the kitchen .. I wanted to make this part more an extension of the house than the garage. A friend had just given me a 55 gallon fish tank, so I plan to keep it out there.

This is what the porch looked like after being enclosed.

And this is what it looks like as of this afternoon

It's a little cluttered up now, as been painting trim and cutting .. trucks staying clean but is dusty .. need to get a cover for it.

Windows are all trimmed out, just need to finish the baseboards and some trim around the ceiling

Here's my compressor .. had it for many years, one day I'd love to get an upright but it will do for now. Going to put it in the shed next to the garage and plumb it into the garage.

Been trying to get up with the cabinet guy to get some custom cabinets installed, but our schedules haven't meshed yet.

As soon as I finish all the trim, gonna look into painting the rest of the walls and ceiling, probably white or a light gray, haven't decided yet.

I'll try to post some more pics soon.

Re: Bcubed's Garage

Worked all day in the garage .. I had picked up a nail gun at harbour freight .. so today I cut all the baseboard and other trim, and nailed it up . finished out the day by blowing out the garage and straightening up.

Next steps are paint, and flooring .. still not sure what I want to do though.

Here's some pics.

Re: Bcubed's Garage

This was waiting for me Friday Afternoon

This is what I started with (little door first)

Progress

The windows were set back some, so I took some scrap material and layered it to build up the thickness.

Had to then go back and cut out the windows.

All done

Comparison to original

One down, will get the other done soon.

Re: Bcubed's Garage

Today was a prep day ... started taping up everything. Planning to get up in the morning and spray ... the garage will be painted by this weekends end ... cause I do not plan to go through taping everything up again

And this showed up today

My painting abilities are in doubt I thought 5 gallons of primer would be more than enough, WRONG .. Im back to get 5 gallons more .. and 15 gallons of paint on top of that ... fun fun.

Here's some progress pictures

Re: Bcubed's Garage

A few more pics .. I robbed a paint store

Primed and ready to go

Some paint on the wall

And heres pretty much what it should look like when done

Today was my last day off work, had hoped to relax today but ended up working till just now .... I scraped plans for painting the gray at the bottom today as I ran out of time .. so next weekend I hope to paint that and put up the moulding.

It looks great to me, really brightened it up ... I knew it was the right decision to paint it, and not just leave it raw wood .. but these last 5 days have been hell I do not want to relive anytime soon

On to the pics

Truck is filthy, it sat outside for the last 5 days and we had a few showers ..

Re: Bcubed's Garage

Well, worked all day on the garage .. got the bottom half of the wall painted gray .. also got my moulding and painted it, but just found out the paint didn't stick right .. so I guess I will have to redo it tomorrow :flame:

Painted Wall

The disastor that is my moulding .. the black is fine, but the red didn't stick

Heres what it will look like, just holding it up for now

The truck pulled back in for the night

Ok, after a long day at work went out and worked in the garage .. got all the trim up, damn I like it :pepper:

Heres the pics .. garage is messy, but you get the idea .. I still do have to paint around the garage doors, but after that just have a little more trim and then onto the floors.

Re: Bcubed's Garage

Haven't posted in a while ... been working on the garage when I can stand it, heat and humidity have been pretty bad. Picked up a clock that goes with the garage and mounted up my speakers .. sounds pretty good, loud enough to get me into trouble with the neighbors if need be.

Trying to get the last of the painting touch ups done, so I can get working on the floor.

Not a big update, but after waiting about 2 months, the service cart I bought finally came in .... was able to put my other top box on it. Just have to raise it up a bit, so the bottom drawer will open.

Combined with this, I have a good amount of tool storage.

Painted my baseboards today .. figured the easiest way was to tape off and spray them. Made a huge difference in my opinion ... can't wait to get the floor down now.

And a bunch of the tools together.

It's really nice, just open the garage doors, and you have complete shade

Re: Bcubed's Garage

Well, it's been a long last few days .... in this order I swept the garage, then swept it again ... blew it out with the leaf blower. Then I degreased the floor and rinsed it out, then I used an etching solution on it that came with the Quikrete system and rinsed it and then left it to dry.

With the way the weather is, drying was a pain .. I used fans, and then a little propane heater .. then eventually borrowed a 115,000 btu Reddy Heater .. that did the trick.

Then I patched the cracks, I tried this stuff in a tube from Quikrete first .. don't try it, first off it wants to clog up in the tube, and when it does come out it smells like warm puke .. no lie. This is the stuff

I went back to Lowes and was recommended this other product from Quikrete and it did the trick ... it's not the same and smells way better. I'd highly recommend it and getting mroe than you think you will need, as it will sink in some after putting it down, I got one quart but wished I had gotten two

So, now on to the pictures ... some Befores (WOW the floor looks bad)

And now the Afters (HUGE difference)

Still have to let it dry before putting on the clear, should look great. Next project to tackle will be cabinets.

Put the clear on tonight .. realy looked freaky going on as it was white .. but it's starting to dry clear now.

Re: Bcubed's Garage

Got 3 of the cabinets put together, the other 3 uppers will go on the wall on the right ... moved my tool boxes back in and put my intermediate 3 drawer in .. and picked me up a fan which had a neat addition of a halogen light .. pretty nice and puts out lots of air.

My workbench comes in Wednesday, so I should have it all done by this coming Saturday.

Still waiting on the workbench to come in, but got the other 3 cabinets put together and mounted. Its starting to come together.

Re: Bcubed's Garage

A few more updates, got my workbench in ... and since I was tired of the 100+ days, picked up a little buddy to cool me off, was so nice working in there today without breaking a sweat.

Re: Bcubed's Garage

That's about it .. it is no where near clean anymore, right now it is stuffed full of 78 Malibu and some junk that really doesn't belong in it ... hopefully this will inspire me to clean it up and get it back to where I'd be proud to post a picture again.
