Horn doesn't want to work.

What is involved in replacing the horn contact. When I push on the horn it does not work the first time. I have to push it a couple of times then it works.

pull the center pad off the steering wheel and have a look. Its really very basic. Just two pieces of metal that touch each other. Stick a socket over the steering wheel nut and see if the horn goes off consistantly. If it does, then have a look at the contacts and clean or re-bend them if needed.

I did what you said. I pulled the spring to make it a little longer. Now the horn works fine.

im going ot have to try this for myself, i currently have my horns unplugged up front in the grille area because when they are connected the horn will randomly turn on and i have no control over it...

Theres really no wiring. Just pull off the center pad and have a look. Its very basic. When you push the horn button, two pieces of metal touch each other and connect the circuit. Its just a little coil spring like from a ball point pen, and a little sheetmetal tab. Or your ground wire might have come off. Simply reconnect it and push the pad back on. Just play around with it until you get it right but make sure the horn goes off by putting a socket over the nut first. If it doesnt go off them check your fuses.

I've pulled the cap off and had a look inside, there is nothing there except the the bolt that holds the steering wheel on.

I'll take some pictures of what it looks like and post them, but if anyone could post some pics of what should be there I should be able to figure out what i'm missing.

Look inside the horn pad. There must be something in there. probably two little tabs that make contact to the metal around the nut on the steering column. Something is probably bent out of shape. I dont have the stock steering wheel on my truck anymore so pics from me would be useless.
