Re: 1949 Project....What to do??

KABEW....Have you done the vett set up from Flat out ?
I have a 51 my son & are are starting on..have a 96 vett donor ..
Sorry for the minor Hi Jack....

If it were my truck I would take $795 of that 1500 and buy flat out Engineering's crossmember and use the rest to purchase the vette components. But that's just me.

Yeah I like the ride height also. He is suppose to be tearing it down for paint soon, if he does anything else to it I'll be sure to take pics. I drove it on the freeway took it to about 75 and let go of the wheel and it drove straight as and arrow for a distance of about a mile and that was with no alignment. Another satisfied customer, you gotta love that.lol

I helped a friend install one on a 52 Ford Truck and its a nice piece. If I would have known about it before I did my mustang 2 that's the route I would have taken.

There are a lot of IFS I like but they can get expensive and with Flat out kit I like that I can just buy the crossmember and getting my own components with time. I have more time than money.lol

Though I pondered the notion of a front clip, I'm glad I kept my 59 stock. I've also found that its difficult to be a penny pincher, it will still be pricey with untold hours working on it! I just wonder why one, has to have a front clip? For me, if I should ever be fortunate enough to get it roadworthy, it will be driven to nifty50ee's, to moms, and an occasional night out for some tea! Lol. Just about all the trucks where I go have front clips
Anyway, have fun here; great people!!! ; )

Have you ever drove a solid axle truck at 75MPH? That is why the clip!

Just kidding but there is a world of difference Between ifs and solid axle.

Re: 1949 Project....What to do??

Hi mknittle, I've never driven a 50's model truck period or anything i can remember with a straight axle. Lol besides I think I wont be going over 65 most of the time. Perhaps the power steering I installed will help somewhat. If our fathers/mothers did it back in the day, we can too. I wonder when the first clipon was installed, must have thought one was crazy for doing so

Hi Denee, I think Yours will be fine for what you are going to use it for.It will be nice and tight with the new bushings and power steering. The main thing is to have fun!
I just have to modify everything I own. Just a Hangover from my years as a prototype machinist.
Back in the day there weren't so many Idiots driving like they are playing a video game and they have a pocket full of quaters
We did our first clip on my sister's 53' in 1985 to solve a bent frame.
