Billet inserts for 69 & 70 grilles ?

Is there such a thing offered out there right now for these years or has anyone done something like this to their 69 or 70 ?
Has anyone got pictures of something a little different that looks cool or can think of an idea that might work?
Throw some ideas at me.
Thanks

There was a magizine out a couple years ago on our trucks. They took a billet grill for a 71-72 and cut it to fit the 70.

I may need to clarify what I am talking about a little bit. I want to keep the entire outer grille stock but just replace the inner with a billet or something a little different.

Thats what they did. They cut the billet grill to fit.It made 2 smaller pieces to fit around the center bar.

Can the '70 grill be cut to accept a '72 billet insert?

Has anyone seen the inner grilles painted the same color as the body instead of black.

In the pictures forum, Bill has a post called" Our trucks on route 66". Look at pic 5 that is a phantom style. Looks pretty cool.

I've never seen a billet grill that fits around the bar on the 69-70 models, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist somewhere. I tend to agree with the above statement, you would have to trim one to fit. I just put in a billet in my 71, made by Carriage Works, Inc., and they only offer the style in my pic for 69-72. By the way, this is a very nice quality grill, and installed easily, and it is available through TruckXpressions.com for 115.00, best price I found on a quality grill.

What about getting ahold of a grill from an older Chevy Astro? Since it sounds like things are going to need chopped up anyway, I'd feel a whole lot better about cutting into a $5 boneyard score than a custom-ordered dress up item.

Not what was asked but I thought I'd throw my .02 in the pile

Yes, as far as the chrome or billet inserts in the grille.
But no as far as painting the outer grille. I don't like the look of painted outer grilles too much at all.I was refering to the inner grille as being painted as an option for a different look.

Thanks

Keep the ideas or pictures coming if you got them.

I have a '70 with a billit grill. Don't worry I didn't cut my expensive factory outer grill (I hit a deer instead). I just got a good deal on a 71-72 outer grill from a guy that was parting one out. I put my indicator lights back in the stock location, just drilled and tapped the radiator support. So my lights are in the stock location, just behind my billit grill.
I haven't seen anybody making a 2-piece design to fit into the factory 69-70 grill. Like said above, you could cut one to fit.

Thanks for the heads up on the price BARN, I was going to order my second one today from "stylin concepts" but this price is a few dollars cheaper. I say my second one because my nine year old ran into the horse "hitchin post" with my 70, ( his foot slipped off of the brake onto the gas pedal) literally a few days after We cut and reworked the 70 outer to install the grille. Sometimes I forget just how old he is, I depend on him too much. He drives all over, ( he was stopped at 6 by the local deputies driving around the corner of the property, they watched him go around the house and on to the street, stopped him, congratulated him, and chewed me out:p ) It broke the upright holding the crossbars together, but didn't hurt anything else. I thought about having it heliarced, but it's easier to just replace it, and it is a great looking/fitting insert.

I'll go to their website and get it done.

Ron

'69 & '70 owners, because we have the "less desireable" of the 67-72 grill designs, the custom aftermarket has snubbed us. I've always wondered if there was , or will ever be, some kind of custom grill for us out there.

I have a '70 chev, and want yo go with what Barn has on his. I was just going to buy the outer for a 1972, and buy the '72 bumper with the marker lights in the bumper. This can be done right?

Yes the 69-72 grills can be swapped.
