They became much less popular, but you can trip over the extended cab Z71's...

Re: 95+ swb 2wd are impossible to find!!!!!!!

Found me a straight '96 a couple of weeks ago without an engine or tranny (original was V6 and 4l60E, I would have swapped anyway) for $700. I agree, they just don't show up very often, there doesn't seem to be nearly as many of 'em on the road as the old stuff. But as Leevon said, extended cab trucks are a dime a dozen. They're good, useful trucks, but they ain't the shortwide that we've all come to admire over the years.

Re: 95+ swb 2wd are impossible to find!!!!!!!

I have had a bunch of reg cab 2wd's and usually end up with someone buying them from me for the reason of not being able to find nice ones.
The one I have now took me forever to find a nice one.
They arent as many nice ones around anymore.

Interestingly enough, I was looking at the 95 GMC SWB reg cab we have the other day and wishing it was an extended cab Z71 (more room plus 4x4) but I could never bring myself to sell this one because it was my grandad's truck.

Only has 47K on it too.

Re: 95+ swb 2wd are impossible to find!!!!!!!

i agree with everything that has been said.when i was looking for a short fleet regular cab i did not think i was ever going to find one i searched high and low for a couple of months before i found mine and i had everyone i could think of keeping an eye open too.i also am seeing 88-98's in my area are really starting to show their age and nice ones are extremely hard to find and very pricey when you do find one.

Go to http://www.cars.com put in Chevy, 1500, search up to 500 miles from your zip code and you'll find a bunch of reg cab v-8's.

There is a 97 in Lincoln, NE with only 78k on it that may be of interest to you.

Re: 95+ swb 2wd are impossible to find!!!!!!!

I'm partial to the 95/96 dash where the gauges and radio sat in the raised/extended part of the dash and the passenger side was recessed, similar to GM truck dashes all the way back to at least the 40's. It's not always as raised or pronounced, but the driver's side is always molded different than the passenger on all those generations of trucks. New stuff is too much like a car dash IMHO.

Re: 95+ swb 2wd are impossible to find!!!!!!!

It's not your imagination. Even the 99-02 regcab shortfleets are already getting tough to find in decent shape. With the 95-98s, it seems like they built a lot more 305s, so the 350s are especially tough to find. Then, they've all been ragged out, or "modded" by somebody with a Pep Boys discount card. Most of the clean, original ones around here end up overpriced on dealer lots.

But just bide your time, then jump on one when you find it. I remember, it's probably been five years ago now, a buddy really wanted one, and a really clean 97 turned up on a dealer lot - 5.7, silverado options, all stock except catback exhaust. He didn't buy it, and I think he's still kicking himself.

Re: 95+ swb 2wd are impossible to find!!!!!!!

Earlier this year I moved from Orange County, Ca., to Bradenton Fla. (South edge of Tampa Bay area)..... My landlord is an auto wholesaler. There's plenty of truck yards around here. He just found an '02 GMC Short bed fleetside '6cyl.

Lot's of salvage yards for trucks around here. They love trucks here.

........ They love the loud diesel noise trucks......

Re: 95+ swb 2wd are impossible to find!!!!!!!

I think I'm gonna jump ship on my voluntary retirement plan at work (still have a mandatory) and start buying 'em up. 6-bangers or V-8's, I don't care, as long as they're straight. As tough as it is to find a decent one today, it's just gonna keep getting tougher. Park 'em in an old barn and start breaking 'em out at retirement. There's a couple of million extended cab short bed trucks, so I know I can find a good, straight bed for $200...for now.
AFAIK, you can plug the L-29 454 harness into the convenience center and computer and you're good to go with a 454 or 496. The L29 MPFI from '96 - 2000 will feed a lot more engine than the restrictive TBI from 454SS trucks and it's a lot more programmable.
The short wide hotrod truck will NEVER die...they're just too damned cool.

I think the extended cab shortbed was such a good seller that a lot of folks decided to go ahead and grab a truck with extra cab room rather than sticking with a short wide standard cab.

Around here the 99-02 are up to 10k from a dealer for a regular cab short bed. I think they're increasing in value. A buddy of mine has a 01 v6 300k and still running strong ( orig owner) He thinks its worth less but I know other wise. On average they go from 4500 to 7500 from a private party. Im thinking that year might be the next 67-72 body style 20 years out. I sometimes think thats the case for the 90's too.

there was a 02 for sale in the OC cl for 18K with low miles supercharged, red in color.

Can you tell I want a shortbed chevy truck

Re: 95+ swb 2wd are impossible to find!!!!!!!

I looked for a SWB Reg Cab for a long time & ended up buying my current 94 Ext Cab. I got a great deal on it considering it was owned by an 82 yr old man & only had 118k on it.

Im still looking for a regular cab though. Lots of them around here but most are ragged out & used for work trucks.

The nice ones are way overpriced. One local dealer has a spotless 1 owner red SWB RC 350/auto 1996, has 119k miles but you would never know it, looks like 19k miles, asking $9500. Another local guy here has a 94 SWB RC Teal & silver with 40k actual miles on it for $9000.

I agree, these 88-98's are the 67-72's of the future. If I had the funds I'd buy a bunch of em lol.

Heres the teal 40k mile truck for $9k on Nashville craigslist. If he'd come down another couple thousand I'd buy it.
