Re: Whats the best part about working-owning these trucks?
I like that parts are available so readily, new and used. The styling is timeless and they drive so nicely, they are very useable classics. So you get all these great points and the awesome Chevy parts interchangeability and you have the total package in my opinion!!

Re: Whats the best part about working-owning these trucks?
I'm just totally stoked when I drive mine. It brings a smile every time.
I feel like I'm saying to the world, "Hey, I don't need to keep up with the Jones'." Go ahead and spend your tens of thousands on a new one...mine will still get the job done! In the 4x4 lexicon: "Built not Bought!"

Re: Whats the best part about working-owning these trucks?
First off, i drive my truck almost every day, and i use it as a truck. As stated above they are the easiest trucks to work on yourself [no scan tool needed here]. Also you can pull up to a stoplight and see two newer trucks or cars that look identical in the same intersection, that won't happen with a 67-72. I have the only one like mine around here. The thumbs up and compliments are nice too. Joseph

Re : Whats the best part about working-owning these trucks?
Interestingly , here on the West Coast , there's still quite a few of the doing daily working duty , the scrap yards get in a dozen every week , mostly because of rust issues , no one wants to spend any $ fixing up a long bed V-8 that gets 10 ~ 13 MPG at best .
A sad thing really .

Re: Whats the best part about working-owning these trucks?
My favorite part about these trucks is they are old enough to be cool but new enough to drive great!! and they seem to hold value better than most other trucks........

Re: Whats the best part about working-owning these trucks?
X100
Plus, the things you do to these trucks add value. Go buy a new one and the value drops so freakin fast .. I'm just sick of loosing my butt when I buy new. I'll put my $400 a month in an older one that appreciates (to a point) It sure doesn't make it depreciate. When my 350 gets tired, I'll drop in an LS2.. so be it.

Re: Whats the best part about working-owning these trucks?
My daily driver is a 2012 Silverado ( company truck) It's ok, has all the modern bells and whistles, but it just don't have the character that my 69 GMC has. There's just something about these old trucks that makes them more than just a piece of machinery.

Re: Whats the best part about working-owning these trucks?
The fact that girls love old trucks is nice. Working on it with my dad and Grandpa are really some of the best times i ve had no matter how mad we get. And that you really can make it your own, the newer trucks are all the same. I have never confused my truck with any one elses at a parking lot

Re: Whats the best part about working-owning these trucks?
The best part about working on one of these trucks is that even someone like me can do it.
The best part about owning one of these trucks is driving it (which is a blast!) and all of the heads turning and horns honking as you drive down the street. What a great feeling!

Re: Whats the best part about working-owning these trucks?
No computer, no sensors, no check engine light, super reliable, easy to fix, cheap to fix, looks great, drives and rides better than my new stuff only one i own rides better my 75 nova. Round headlights, glass headlights never dull out, fun to drive, minimal plastic crap, my wife loves them, etc.....

Re: Whats the best part about working-owning these trucks?
My 98 Tahoe gets 15 mpg, my 72 if I keep my foot out of it gets close to 14, I'm willing to give up 1 mpg anyday to drive my 72! It handles better and is more comfortable to me.

Re: Whats the best part about working-owning these trucks?
The best part about owning my truck, is ITS MINE and I didnt drop $30,000 on it!!! I can haul 1 1/2 cords of fire wood or I can take my girls fishing, and not worry that I am going to scratch the paint. If something breaks down, I can fix it. I drive an 08 superduty as my work truck and if it breaks down, I am stuck, you cant even see half the engine cause its under the dash. The engine on my 69 is right out in the open, easy to see and work on.

Re: Whats the best part about working-owning these trucks?
For me, it's knowing that my truck has been parked in the same driveway for 42 years. 500,000 miles worth of memories are embedded into that steel.
Even though I drastically changed everything about my truck, it still has the exact same soul. Everybody that I have known for a long time has fond memories of it. Having a beer with friends, leaning on the bed rails, and someone says " remember when...". I can not even comprehend it not being there. |
